“Did we do this together?”

“What do you think? Close your eyes and see us there. Do you see it?”

She had closed her eyes and smiled, her face upturned to his. Waiting.

He whispered to her lips, “We did lots of things in the garden.” He gave her a gentle kiss. “I’d love to show you everything, Lydia. Do you see it?”

“I feel it. I want you to show me, Harper. Show it all to me. Bring it all back. I want it all.”

It was midnightwhen he awoke. She was lying in his arms, just like they used to do, her head on her pillow which he’d finally washed. His fingers lazily laced up and down her spine until she began to stir and respond, kissing his neck and pressing her upper torso into his with her arms wrapped around him.

“I can see it will be a beautiful life, Harper. And if it all doesn’t come back, we’ll make more memories, right?”

“Absolutely.”

She slid closer, but her leg got caught on Venom’s hard body. The dog had wedged himself between them.

“Off, Venom,” he said, and Venom at first refused, then jumped off the bed, and left the room.

“That might take me a bit to get used to.”

“He loves you, Lydia,” he said as he accepted her kisses. She was climbing on top of him, showering him with her scent, her hair, the view of her naked body making him ache for her again, but this time, he knew his pain would be eased, and he’d have her all over again.

He held her head as she kissed him. “As do I, Lydia. Forever and forever.”

“Me too, Harper. In fact, I think I loved you even before I realized it. But this is better.”

“Much better.”

“Let’s start the day every day like this.”

He flipped her onto her back. “It’s a deal. I promise.”
