“When have youeverneeded me?”

“What if I never love you? I don’t think I even knowhowto love.”

“Then hate me until the hate starts to feel like love.”

I push him off me with a huff of laughter. “You’re too fucked up to be someone’s boyfriend, Luca.”

He shrugs. “I’ll just have to become your fucked-up husband.”

“Ew, are you proposing to me?”

“When I propose to you, Lynch, you’ll know it.”

When we return intothe restaurant, we find Sophie and Evan at the bar. They are both leaning against the bar, Sophie talking over the rim of her glass, Evan listening intently, eyesfixed on her. Their hands rest on the counter, fingers interlaced, and Evan’s thumb strokes over Sophie’s knuckles.

I pause under the arch to the bar area, sighing loudly.

“To have what they have,” I say to Luca, more to annoy him than anything else.

“She used to hate him when we were in school,” he tells me.

“What’s there to hate? Have you seen him? His chest? I bet he has insane abs, the kind you could ride to orgasm.”

“You’re an animal,” Luca says. “If you need abs to orgasm on, Lynch, you can just have mine.”

“It wouldn’t be the same, though, would it?” I ask with arch sweetness, and I try to walk away, but Luca catches me by the back of the neck, forcing me to arch and look up at him.

“Keep provoking me, Lynch, and I will fuck you again, right now, right here against this very bar for all to see.”

“As if you would ever dare. You’ll give your mum a heart attack.”

“My reputation is already in tatters—you saw to it. You think another scandal matters to me? I’d do it just so the world knew you were mine.”

I smile. “I’m not yours, Luca.Youaremine.”

It pleases him enough that he lets go of me, and I walk over to the bar to link my arms around Sophie’s and Evan’s shoulders.

“Dessert, anyone?” I ask winningly.

Sophie looks up and shakes her head. “I’m surprised you’re both back in one piece. We were making bets on whose dead body would be found on—”

And then her eyes take in the sight of me, my hair, the red marks on my neck and shoulders, the red scratch marks where my legs were pressed into the stone ledge, and her mouth drops slightly open.

“Oh,” she says.

Luca pulls me off both her and Evan. “Definitely hers. I’m a former fencing champion, after all.”

“Who are you kidding? Definitely yours,” Evan says to him. “You’d probably get off on her strangling you to death.”

“He would,” I confirm. “I worry about it, actually. Sometimes he would beg me to choke him just like this, let me show you—”

I raise my hands to Evan’s neck, Luca catches me by my waist and pulls me flush to his body.

“And the contract?” Sophie says with a crisp efficiency I personally find incredibly attractive. She respectfully averts her eyes from my brand-new bruises. “Are we taking this to court or not? Part of me would love to see you trying to defend this deplorable contract in court, Luca. Another scandal to add to your ever-growing collection.”

“You against an army of the best lawyers in London, Sutton,” Luca says, his head propped on my shoulder. “The odds are laughable.”

“I could always beat the fuck out of him, if you want,” Evan says to me, and I feel Luca’s arm tighten around my waist, his body a hard wall behind mine. “I’ve done it before, and I’d be excited to do it again. You say the word, Willow, and I’ll rearrange all those ugly features on his face.”
