“I do not need much space to fuck you to sleep, even with my knot lodged in your ass. I also don’t need our Omega pregnant to let him fuck me again. If you’re good and go to sleep, I might just let you watch the next time it happens.”

Ren’s eyes widened and then immediately shut, chuckles running through the nest. He might have been nearing 30 but he was so wonderfully childish, a bright ray of sunshine in the darkness.

Kieran reached forward and Isaias threaded his fingers through our Omega’s hand, both of them whispering silent I love you’s. Kieran did the same for Ren, kissing his forehead before the room fell completely silent. The scent of sex and sweat hung in the air and mingled with our four scents, calming me to sleep.

I kept an ear out for our babies but they were silent, nothing coming from the baby monitor discarded at the edge of the nest either.

Tomorrow, we could deal with the rest of our demons. Tonight, I was going to relish the fact that my family was safe and we had a bright future to look forward to.

Two Days Later

KIERAN

Self-defense.

I knew that I would have been charged with no less but it was so much different being promised that everything would be okay to actually hearing and seeing it written down in stone. We had spent the rest of that day navigating my heat and the next two resting as my body tried to regain its strength. While the shock might have forced the inconvenient Omega biology, the surmounting stress had stolen it away just as quickly.

And now Isaias, Nala, and I were sitting in an interrogation room as the chief of Emsboro, Ohio–Chief Hart stared at us, moving between a frown and mild amusement. He heard me recount the story three times over the last hour, Nala chipping in where she could. There was no use lying about it, especially when Xylo swore up and down that things would work themselves out.

Michael really had been on everyone’s last nerve, hadn’t he?

“There will be a few more investigative questions, I’m sure, as we run his body through an autopsy and compile the case file. However, it seems like a pretty clear-cut self-defense case.” Chief Hart leaned back in his chair, running both hands through his hair as he let out a ragged sigh. He was a pretty intimidating Alpha, nearly as tall as Isaias but the round belly and mischievous hazel eyes softened his features. “I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t on board with any of this shit that Xylo was throwing at me until I started getting pressure from all sides to close this case as soon as possible.”

A frown took over my tight smile. “What are you talking about?” I would have thought that POCA might have tried to investigate Michael’s death but if he truly had been a rogue agent, maybe this was them easily cutting ties and washing their hands of the bastard.

Isaias reached beneath the table and placed a firm on my thigh to soothe me. My gruff demeanor hadn’t been a surprise for Chief Hart but once he figured out that I was the Omega and not the little Alpha cradling our sons out in the lobby, well… my abrasive answers weren’t taken as well.

He cleared his throat and clasped his hands on the table, addressing Isaias rather than me or Nala. “POCA, is it? They’ve got their fingers in more shit than you can imagine but they also don’t like publicity. That’s why most people have never heard of them. They pride themselves in finding prized Omegas and offering them the best homes. Apparently, nasty people with a whole lot of fucking money will pay top dollar for an Omega with certain… characteristics.” His gaze darted to me and Isaias growled.

“I’m not a fucking piece of meat,” I ground out.

“No, you’re not,” Chief Hart responded. “Unfortunately, not everyone else thinks that way.”

I was tired and irritable and just wanted to go back home with my family. A quick glance to my right and I caught Nala shifting uncomfortably in her seat. She had been so strong through all of this but even I knew that she was hiding demons that she refused to talk about. Nala caught my gaze and shook her head. She didn’t want to talk about it.

One day, she would have to but I wouldn’t force it.

Chief Hart stood, placing both hands flat on the table. I knew he was going to try to intimidate me but dealing with police for so long meant that his tactics wouldn’t work, not to mention that Isaias’ confidence thrumming through the bond helped. The snarky little smile on Nala’s lips as they curled upward told me she wasn’t about to back down either.

“Chief!” The door swung open, revealing an out-of-breath Xylo, Zahria on his heels. “We got what we need?”

“Smooth,” I mumbled under my breath as they pushed inside.

Chief Hart grunted and shook his head as he swiped up the folder and marched to the door. “Impeccable timing. Really. You’d think both of you had a little more stake in this case than just helping a friendly neighbor.” A laugh followed his words. “Not a dig, Xylo. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have known this shit was flying under my nose. I’m just not happy with the paperwork I’ve been saddled with because of it. And all the future paperwork that comes with it.”

Xylo threw him a sheepish grin before pushing inside. Zahria followed suit, her gaze flitting between the three of us, lingering on Nala a little longer than appropriate. Anger flashed in her eyes every time she did and I thought there might be some hidden animosity until I caught the little Omega blushing and tucking her head into her chest.

With Xylo patiently following the movement, a silly grin playing on his lips, I fucking knew there was a new pack starting in front of my very eyes, and who better than two people Iwas sure would take care of her? Xylo not-so-subtly cleared his throat to interrupt the moment. “Are you guys doing alright?”

I held my tongue this time, waiting for Isaias to speak.

“As good as we can be. All of this really that simple? Just pushed under the rug?”

Xylo shook his head. “Quite the opposite. Chief Hart hates unknowns and especially people who tell him what to do. He’s starting up a task force to investigate a little bit more of what’s going on. Asked Zahria if she wanted to be on it the moment all this shit blew up. Seems that POCA isn’t really a thing anymore but there’s a few lingering agents doing shady shit and Chief Hart wants it stopped.” He shrugged. “I’m not complaining. It gets me from behind the desk.”

“From what we can tell,” Zahria added as she took a step forward. “Is that this road is over and done with. There’s nothing left. No one is after you and no one is looking for you. The process is a bit weird but young Omegas have to be delivered to a mutual location before payment can be offered. Until then, you’re not actually on POCA’s radar, just the agents themselves.”
