Switch leaned forward in his chair off to the side, his legs sprawling wide, his hands dangling between them. I stared down at his fingers. Fingers that had dug into my ass while he pounded into me, making me come so hard that I saw stars. Fucking stars.

No. Bad Stella. Get your mind out of the gutter before he either distracted you again, or the guys figured out what you’d been doing in that garage with Switch.

I tore my eyes away from his hands only to face Hunter’s unnerving stare. He pinned me there, stripping me down to the bone as if he were a human x-ray machine.

“There’s too much money on the line for them to go very far.”

Hunter’s eyes shifted to Switch, and I let out a breath. Part of what made Hunter so lethal was that there was no freeing yourself from his hold until he’d gotten exactly what he wanted and let you go.

Hunter may have suspected something was up between me and Switch, but now he knew for sure. There was no way someone as adept at reading people as he is would have missed it. But Hunter never used information unless it somehow benefited him. Thankfully, I didn’t see how it ever could.

“They will come out only after their underlings fail. If we do this, we do it knowing we need to wipe out all the pawns on the board before the king makes his move.”

Hunter’s ominous words left behind an unsettling silence. I hated like hell that I’d put them in this position, but like it or not, I couldn’t change the past. All I could do now was try to move forward. I’d respect their decision, and not hold it against them no matter how they voted, but I meant what I said. I was taking these men down. Even if it killed me.

Gunner ran a hand through his shaggy locks, his haunted eyes meeting mine. The man had more hidden ghosts thanGhostbusters, and I respected the hell out of him for it. He thought himself a monster, but sometimes it took a monster to fight monsters. To me, that made him more of a hero than his service to our country.

“If they could take you, what’s stopping them from coming after our old ladies? I made a promise to Trish when I joined this club that I’d protect her. By helping you, I’mkeeping that promise. No matter what the club decides, you can count on my rifle to hit any target you point it at.”

Well, shit. Tears threatened to gather at the back of my eyes. If I were the hugging sort, like Cherry, I’d have knocked him over with the force of it already.

Ryder banged his gavel against the table. “If nobody else has anything more to report on this matter, I say we vote.”

My father nodded at him, “I think you already know which way I’m voting.”

From beside him, Pops clapped him on the back, then slid his hand to his shoulder, letting it rest there. “You know I’m with you until the end, brother.”

Dagger leaned forward to look past Pops at my dad. “Hell, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even be here. Brothers until the end.”

My dad wiped underneath his eye with his thumb as Gunner raised a finger in the air to solidify his vote.

“Hell yes!” Tweak grinned at me. “You know I’m always up for some mayhem.”

Beast sat next to Tweak, shaking his head. “Someone needs to keep an eye on wonder boy over here and make sure he doesn’t get his ass shot off. I’m in.”

“I’ve been watching this Antonio guy and something about him doesn’t sit right with me,” Colt said with a frown. “That’s a yes for me.”

Valentina’s brother, Marco, flashed his white teeth at me. I wouldn’t call it a smile, necessarily, because there was something predatory about it. Switch shifted slightly, his body tightening, but I doubt anyone besides Hunter and I noticed.

Switch’s desire to inflict violence on a man for looking at me in a manner he didn’t like should have pissed me off. This wasn’t the 1920s, and I didn’t need Switch to handle shit forme. I could put Marco in his place my damn self, thank you very much.

Still, I couldn’t deny that Switch’s aggression had me rubbing my thighs together to keep from riding him like a bull in front of everybody. What the hell was happening to me? My hormones were single-handedly setting women’s lib back at least forty years.

“I like you.” Marco pointed his finger at me, and I swear I could hear Switch’s teeth grinding from here. “You are bloodthirsty, you have cojones the size of watermelons, and I think you’re just loco enough to pull this off. Yes, I will help you get your revenge.”

“You don’t get a vote, prospect,” Switch snapped, his hands balling into fists.

Holy shit. They needed to hurry up and vote before I did something I’d regret.

Ryder leaned back in his chair to give Switch a death glare. “Neither do you, so pipe down over there before I toss you out on your ass.”

Switch wisely kept his mouth shut, but I suspected that was mainly because he didn’t trust Marco. Not that I trusted him, either. Valentina was one thing, she’d already gone against her family for Ryder and the club, but I suspected Marco’s loyalty, if he had any, was with their brother, Diego.

Marco had been born into the Mexican cartel like I’d been born into the MC. The only difference between us was that I was here by choice.

Ryder straightened in his chair and looked over at Hunter. “What’s your vote?”

“Yes.”
