“It’s not a secret that Los Sepultureros and The Devil’s Deviants are rivals. We could always make it look like a turf war. You supply Los Sepultureros with the weapons, and I’ll take care of making sure The Deviants know they were the ones who took Stella. Then we sit back and let them kill each other.”

“I like it. The Deviants will be too busy fighting the wrong men to keep fucking with our business and Stella’s stupid enough to involve herself in her father’s war. That only leaves the sister. What do you want to do about her?”

“Mateo hooked her the first time, maybe we can send Michael after her this time? He can charm the panties off any woman.”

“Fine, but tell him there can be no screw ups this time. Now, get out of my club before someone recognizes you.”

The recording stopped, and I looked over at Stel. She stared off into space, a blank look on her face. After all that, I suspected a much stronger reaction from her.

“Stel?”

My tone was soft, but she still jumped. She blinked a few times, her honey eyes meeting mine.

“What?”

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” she said, setting her coffee mug down and standing. “I’m just going to go take a shower and check on Delilah.”

I watched her walk down the hall, dread settling in the pit of my stomach. She was turning something over inside that brain of hers, and I got the feeling I wasn’t going to like it. Not one bit.

CHAPTER 29

STELLA

The club had no choice now but to go after Antonio. He was planning to arm our rivals and start a war. But I wasn’t letting anyone kill that asshole but me. If he thought he could get rid of me that easily, he had another thing coming. He didn’t know who he was messing with, but he was about to find out. All I had to do was get to him before the club did.

Which meant I had to sneak out without anyone noticing, a nearly impossible feat with Switch wanting to fuck me twenty-four seven. Not that my pussy minded. No, thattraitorous bitch was like that creepy dude fromLord of the Ringsstroking that ring. My precious. Fucking pitiful was what it was.

I slipped into Delilah’s room, not bothering to knock. She sat on the bed with her legs crossed, staring off into space. That recording had fucked with her like it had fucked with me, but for different reasons.

While she had closure, and now knew she had nothing to do with her brother’s death, it still wouldn’t bring him back. Nothing would.

But I could kill the man responsible for his death. All I needed her to do was distract Switch.

She didn’t look up or even blink when I approached the bed, so I snapped my fingers in front of her face. I hated disturbing her sorrow like that, but justice waited for no man. At least, not today, it didn’t.

Her dark eyes focused on me, then she turned her head away. “Leave me alone.”

“I wish I could, but I only have a brief window to kill the man responsible for your brother’s death.”

Her head turned back to me so fast I was surprised it didn’t give her whiplash. Yeah, I’d say I had her attention.

“All you have to do is keep Switch busy with training for as long as you can. I’ll do the rest.”

“Deal.” She held out her hand, then snatched it away before I could take it. “But when it comes time to kill Mateo, you leave him to me.”

She put her hand out again, and I smiled down at her as I shook it. “Pleasure doing business with you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to fake a shower.”

Her laugh followed me out the door, but like everything else about her, it lacked any sort of feeling. I only hoped when this was all over that she found the will to shuck the emptyshell and live again. If not for herself, then for Jules because he would never get the chance.

In my room, I went straight to the bedside table and slid open the drawer. The gun my dad had given me for my sixteenth birthday sat in the bottom. He gave it to Hunter the second night I was here thinking it would somehow make me feel safe. If only that were true.

When we left to hit the safe houses, Switch had handed me one of his. I took it and never corrected his assumption. What made me keep it a secret from him I couldn’t tell you, but now I was glad that I had.

I turned the shower nozzle to hot, letting steam fill the room before I stood on the toilet and opened the window. Peeking out, I watched Delilah lead Switch away from the house with a determined look on her face.

Now was my chance. It was a tight fit, and took someCirque Du Soleilmaneuvering, but at least I landed in the grass. I brushed off my jeans and looked around, but Delilah and Switch were far enough away that they hadn’t heard me fall.
