“Do you want a drink or something?”

Dawson shakes his head.

Okay.I begin to make a salad for tomorrow’s lunch.

“But I do want to ask you something,” I say, my heart racing.

“What?” He sits down on the opposite side of the island and watches me cut vegetables for the salad.

“You sell virgins?” I blurt, not looking up as I start slicingthe onion.

He’s quiet. And I chance a glance in his direction. He doesn’t seem all too pleased that I know, and I hope I haven’t broken his trust with Crue and Rya or something of the sort.

“Yes,” he replies hesitantly.

I release a breath. At least he’s not avoiding the conversation.

“Why?”

“You can look at me when you ask these things,” he says.

I raise my gaze to his, the knife blade hovering over an onion. I want to look away because I feel silly for asking, but there’s no judgment in Dawson’s expression. The tension flows out of me immediately. “Because men pay a lot of money for things that are hard to come by.”

“You don’t offer up underage girls, do you?” I might not know much about this business, but I draw a line at that. And if that is the type of man Dawson is—

“Absolutely not. Not fucking ever. All our women, and men, for that matter, are consenting adults.”

“Okay, good.” I nod and go back to chopping the onion.

“Why are you asking?”

I bite my bottom lip and scrape the onion into the bowl. “How much does a woman get for her part of the service?”

He eyes me quietly, and I look away, waiting for him to answer. I pretend to be busy searching for the oil in my pantry.

“Why are you asking me this? Are you recording our conversation?” he questions, looking around suspiciously.

I whirl on him, almost dropping the oil. “What? No!”

He seems amused by my reaction. “This is why I make people sign NDAs and contracts.” Okay, I guess I get it now because it’s not exactly legal.

Maybe Dawson is the answer I’ve been looking for.

“I’m curious,” I add. “How much?”

“All are above one million. The highest someone paid was ten.”

My eyes go wide.

Holy shit.

That’s life-changing money.

Don’t get me wrong, my father has money. And one day, I will inherit a part of that money, more so than the allowance I already get, but I want to earn my own way. Since being here and seeing how successful Rya is in her career, I know that if anything ever happens, she will be secure and could truly fend for herself, and I can’t say the same for myself.

I put the oil down. “There is a reason I said no to you earlier.”

“Earlier?” he asks, confused.
