Page 29 of Trusting The Biker

I get moved into a room for the night. I talked Pam into going home once my brother and my girls showed. There’s nothing she can do for me besides driving me crazy. I’ve never liked people fussing over me. Kimber and Nav took Kiesha home with them for another night. They brought me some fuzzy socks, lotion, and a pair of sweatpants with the matching zip up hoodie. Also, my toothbrush and toothpaste. Kiesha brought me her old phone and swapped my sim card out so I don’t have to worry about being without a way to make calls.

This is not how I planned on spending my Saturday night. Right now, I should be at Prodigy’s place getting wined and dined. Then properly and thoroughly fucked.

There’s a light knock at the door and speaking of the hot biker he struts in, appearing pissed at the world, but the second his eyes scan over me and see that I look okay, his expression softens. “If you wanted to cancel our date, you didn’t have to go to such lengths,” he teases.

“Trust me. I’d much rather be having dinner at your place.”

He smiles at that information. “How long until I get to bust you out of here?”

“Tomorrow. I’m afraid.” I passed the preliminary tests. My balance is fine, as well as my vision. The nausea is a light concern. They did some imaging of the injury, and they say it’s only a mild concussion.

He pulls up a chair and takes my hand in his. “Link says the guy was wearing a mask.”

“I don’t want to talk about it right now.”

“I get that, beautiful. I do. But someone messed with you and I can’t have my woman being attacked and not doing shit all about it.”

“Your woman?”

“Yeah, Zoe. My woman.”

“Slow down.”

“I get that the way I feel about you scares you, but I told you I’d keep showing up.”

My heart rate increases so much that the nurse comes in to check on me. “Visiting hours are about over,” she warns.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he promises me once she’s gone.

“They’ll kick you out.”

“Let’em try me.”

True to his word, Prodigy didn’t leave my side all night.

He reluctantly left about an hour ago to go home and freshen up while I visit with my girls and wait to be released. I couldn’t get through to the bank by phone. Kimber was able to log in online on my computer and report my card as stolen.

Before he left, he made Navarro promise to text him the minute I’m released. He wants to be the one to drive me home.

“Do you think it was him?” Kiesha asks me out of nowhere.

“Him?”

“Our sperm donor.”

I stare at my hands, not wanting to look her in the eyes and lie to her. “I don’t know.” I offer her a weak smile. “Let’s not think about it. It’s over. Whoever they are, I’m sure they’ve figured out that the card is a dud and moved on.”

It doesn’t escape my notice that Navarro is paying close attention to my every word.

Chapter Ten

“What are you thinking?”

“My gut tells me, Adam. She wouldn’t protect that piece of shit by not naming him. It’s not a coincidence the same damn day Kiesha and Nav bump into the fucker that my sister is attacked.”

“You think this has to do with the bullshit that went down last time with Hound and Karma getting nabbed?”

“Girl who cried wolf,” Link states, then sucks down the last of his Coke. He lights up a joint and offers me a hit that I gladly accept.
