“Mild concussion, but all right.”

“Did you find out who the piece of shit was?”

“Yeah. Her ex.”

“For real?”

“Yeah. She wouldn’t lie about something like that.”

“Easy. I wasn’t accusing her. Damn.”

“It’s a sensitive topic with how Hound suspected her of it last time.”

“I’m starting on day rotations. But if you need anything, give me a call. I’ll be there.”

“Good looking out. Is my sister home?”

“Was asleep when I got out of the shower. And hey.” He punches me in the shoulder. “That steak dinner the other night and the hot tub after.” He pinches two fingers to the pad of his thumb and air kisses them like a chef.

“Yeah. Yeah. Glad you enjoyed the evening I’d planned for my woman. I don’t need any details about how you wooed my sister though, and you had better of run some chemicals through the water after.”

“I took care of it. You planning on staying at Zoe’s again tonight?”

“That depends on if I can talk her into coming here until we catch this fuck. I know if she brings Kiesha, shit could get a little crowded.” Jimmy’s been sleeping on our couch when he isn’t able to stay with Trenton and I don’t want to leave him with no place to go.

“Ember and I can always get a room for a couple of nights, or I could finally talk her into moving into mine permanently.”

“That’s enough details. We’ll play it by ear.”

“All right. Well, I gotta get to work.”

“Later, brother.”

“Navarro is staking out the mall parking lot in case that sack of shit shows his face there,” I tell Link. I wanted to be on watch at the daycare, but Zoe doesn’t want any of the parents to get freaked out by bikers hanging around outside. I can see her point. Plus, I have the cameras backing up to the security room at the clubhouse. Kimber is at work at some portrait studio in the mall. We don’t think Adam even knows where she works. Nor do we think he’ll try to make contact, but Nav isn’t taking any chances. That only leaves Kiesha unprotected, but I have an idea for that.

The school also wouldn’t appreciate us hanging around the parking lot or across the street.

“Prospect,” I call dipshit Jimmy over.

“Yeah, man, what’s up?”

Link gives me a look and shakes his head.

“We got a special job for you.”

“Whatever you need.”

“Right answer. You got a backpack?”

“No. Why?”

“Because you’re going back to school.”

His bushy brows furrow as he stares back at me. “School?”

“Yeah. Dumbass. High school. You’re young enough to pass for a student. You’ll blend in.”

“They’re going to quickly discover I don’t go there. What am I supposed to do there, anyway?”
