“What’s up? Did that fuck stick do something else?”
“Something like that.” I knock on the office door.
“It’s open.”
Link and I file in and take a seat across from Murder’s desk.
“You sounded serious on the phone.”
“There’s a situation.”
“This have to do with Zoe getting attacked?”
“Yeah. Turns out the new girl Lily got hired on at the daycare has a kid with Adam. Zoe’s fuckwad ex-husband.”
“He the one who assaulted her?”
“Yup. Zoe confirmed it to me yesterday.”
“You finally get your head out of your ass and make a move?”
“We’re together.”
“Figure that since you brought Link in with you.”
He strokes his beard. “What’s this favor?”
“Marie. The other woman. After he attacked Zoe, he went after her later that night. She needs a safe place for her and the kid to lay low until we find him and deal with him accordingly.”
“It’s no secret Link’s wanted to take him out for years. The club has your back. Both of you. Whatever you need.”
“We pulled Jimmy to keep an eye on Kiesha at school.”
“Explains why you’re working the bar,” Prez notes. “Would have liked the two of you to fill me in sooner. That’s not what’s important. Could put her up at the Bunny Mansion. Security is tight. We’ve not turned shit over to Lily yet, but this chick will be safe there. The other girls will make her feel at home as long as they don’t fill her head with nonsense about Shiloh’s ghost haunting the place.”
“What’s the move with catching this piece of shit?”
“I figure he’ll pop up at the daycare looking for her. If he discovered where she was staying, then he probably knows where she works. I’m sure he’s pissed that his effort to rob Zoe only netted him about five hundred bucks. Guy like him with his habits. He’ll be desperate for more. I’d wager he’s blown through it already.”
“I’ll call Angel and have her to get a room ready. Lily will be at my place later to talk about the mansion and how that deal will go. I’ll fill her in on Marie. See if she knows anything. This Marie? You think she’s trustworthy?”
“I can’t vouch for her. But either way, she’ll lead us to this asshole. If she’s playing us, we’ll figure her out soon enough.”
“No doubt.”
I drop back by the daycare with lunch for Zoe and her coworkers. To make up for taking longer than I intended, I got them all a slice of cheesecake for dessert. When Zoe’s eyes land on the cake, I know all is forgiven.
The other lady working is keeping an eye on the kids. Most of them are down for their naps, but there’s a few who are too old or rambunctious to take one. “When I leave here, I’m a need Marie and her kid to come with me. Prez has a girl getting a room ready at the mansion. He’s finalizing a deal to donate the property to Lily for her cause. There’s security. It’s secluded. Most of all, it’s a safe location. The downside is she’s off the rotation here until Adam is located. If you need extra hands to cover her shifts, a few ol’ ladies have volunteered to pick up the hours with Marie receiving the pay. Even some of the bunnies said they’d step in.”
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but who are you and what’s the mansion?”
“I’m Zoe’s man. If you didn’t pick up on it from my cut, I’m a biker. My club is putting you under our protection. The mansion is about to belong to Lily’s Hope, but for now, all you need to understand is we’ll protect you and your kid.”
“What will you do with Adam?”
“That depends on him.”
“And if I don’t want to go to this mansion, then what?”
