My thoughts shift to that little girl who is unlucky enough to share a father with my girls.

I hope Marie and Kieleigh will be comfortable at the mansion. Safe from Adam. Placing my phone to my ear, I’m about to order when the back door creaks open and in walks Prodigy with flowers, pizza, and cupcakes.

I burst into tears.

No one has ever brought me flowers.

“I was a dick.”

“Yeah. You were.”

“Promised I’d handle you with care. I broke my word.”

“I could have explained myself better.”

“Truce.”

I nod and he crosses the room, dropping the food and flowers on the counter.

“Kiss me,” I murmur against his lips. “You must have read my mind. I was about to order a pizza for Kiesha, Jimmy, and me.

“Good to see he follows orders.”

“I’ll let them know it’s here. Thank you.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“I’ll be back in a flash.”

“Mouth,” he says with a grunt like he’s a barbarian.

I give him my mouth and his arms close around me. He holds me like he never wants to let me go. Pulling away too soon for my liking, he looks me dead in the eyes and says, “I don’t want to pressure you or make things uncomfortable. But I don’t want to leave you unprotected. I don’t have to sleep in your bed if you don’t want me to. I can take the couch.”

“I’ve waited all my life for a guy like you. We’re going to have arguments. Life isn’t perfect. You come pretty damn close. Kiesha wants me to be happy. I’ll never not want you in my bed.”

“You think I’m perfect, huh?” He kisses me again, this time much hotter than the last.

“Get a room,” Kiesha calls out, announcing her presence in the kitchen.

“Let Jimmy know the pizza is here.”

“Can’t he like go home now that your man is here?”

“Don’t be rude. He’s a guest.”

“Yo, Prospect. Food. Kitchen.”

Kiesha smirks at my man for saving her the trouble.

Jimmy had two pieces of pizza, then bailed after getting a text message that had him going red in the face and not the good kind of red. Sam showed up about twenty minutes after he left. They and Kiesha took the rest of the pizza to her room to finish it off while they dye her hair some mauve color.

Prodigy and I have retired to my bedroom. After wine and pizza and the day I’ve had, I’m more than ready for a good night of uninterrupted sleep. While I’m in the bathroom washing my face, I can hear him on the phone talking about Adam. I’m trying not to eavesdrop as I move through the motions of exfoliating, then applying my night cream that I got from Bianca’s shop.

People say she’s a witch. I lean toward the skeptical side, however this skincare line she developed could be magic. By the time I’ve brushed my teeth, my man is off the phone and knocking at the door.

“It’s unlocked.”

He enters and stares at my knee length, pink cotton nightgown with cats and pumpkins on it.
