“Is that why he’s in town?” Kimber asks.

“I believe so. Anyway, he’s been abusing her, so the club is looking out for her. And us, since he’s the one who attacked me.”

“He’s such a piece of shit. Who knows how many other siblings we have? How old is our sister?”

“Her name is Kieleigh and I think she’s four.”

“Does she know about us?”

“I’m not sure. I appreciate you’ll have questions. I honestly don’t have any information other than what I’ve told you.”

“Can we meet her?”

“Once it’s safe to reach out. I will ask, but I can’t promise. That’s going to be up to Marie. Your father attacked her after he came after me. For now, her and your sister are in a safe location.”

“And Dad? Where is he now?”

“Wish I knew,” I speak up. “If he makes contact with you, don’t engage. You let me, Link, Nav, or Jimmy know.”

“Are you going to kill him?”

“Kiesha,” Zoe snaps.

“I’m not stupid, Mom. I know about the club and what they are capable of.”

“No one is killing anyone.”

“Dad would. He’d kill us all for a dollar and not care.” Kimber states, coolly.

She’s not wrong. Breaks my heart that Zoe’s daughters will never have the relationship they’ve craved with him. I know how that cuts bone deep. My relationship with my family outside of my sister is nonexistent. Given the chance, I’ll fill those shoes for Kimber and Kiesha.

If Zoe ever blesses me with a child, they’ll never experience that void.

That hole I’ve had in my heart that the club has helped to plug.

“Can you give me a ride to school?” Kiesha shoves her chair back and looks at Jimmy.

I give him a chin lift.

“Straight home after school,” Zoe warns her.

Kimber and Nav leave a few minutes later, leaving us alone.

“I hope Kiesha doesn’t rebel. She has a tendency to lash out when it comes to their father.”

“She’ll be okay. She’s a good kid. A little dramatic and stubborn, but most women are.”

“Rude.”

I lean down for a kiss.

“I can’t believe she thought I might be pregnant or that we’d be getting married after a couple of dates.”

“Would that be so terrible?”

“Terrible? No. Too soon. Too fast. Yes.”

“We both see that’s where this is headed. The timeline isn’t important.”
