Page 56 of Trusting The Biker

“Nope. Between us, they’ve not been getting along the past few months. Since he started prospecting with the club. She never wanted him to join.”

“That’s unfortunate and understandable.”

“I told her not to make a scene.” Ember shakes her head as her friend’s voice gets higher and higher.

The club will tolerate that for about ten more seconds.

“I’d advise her to cool it or take it outside. Crawl looks like he’s ready to throw her over his shoulder and drop her at the gate any second now,” Kimber muses.

“Shit,” Ember hisses. “I better get her.”

“Good luck,” I tell her.

“Thanks. I’m going to need it.”

As Ember walks off to get her friend under control, Kiesha takes up her empty seat. “She’s like super pissed off at him. Major yikes.”

“I can see that.”

“What’s she saying to him, anyway?” Kimber asks and the two of them whisper about how Jimmy hasn’t been calling her as much and today’s her birthday and they are supposed to go out tonight to celebrate and he hasn’t even bothered to wish her a happy birthday.

I can’t blame his girlfriend for being upset, but sometimes that’s the nature of the beast when dating a biker. The club will always come first and if Jimmy wants to earn his patch, he’s got to prove that at all costs. I don’t envy their situation. First loves are hard enough without the added pressure of a motorcycle club vying for your man’s attention and affection.

Speaking of bikers and affection, mine enters the bar, followed by my brother.

Prodigy grins at me and I observe an orange puff of fur peeking out of his cut.

“Oh my God, is that a kitten!?” Kiesha jumps out of her chair squealing like a loon and doing a little dance while holding her hands out to take possession of the fur ball. “Moooom! Can I keep it?”

“Maybe Prodigy wants to keep her since he found her.” I shoot my man a dirty look and he shrugs a shoulder at me.

Ugh. The last thing I want is a pet that I will be stuck taking care of, but seeing the smile on Kiesha’s face right now, how can I say no?

“Fine. But.” I hold up a hand. “You’ll be responsible for cleaning the litter box and feeding her.”

“Thank you. Thank you. You’re the best.” She kisses Prodigy on the cheek and runs off to show Jimmy, who is sulking in the corner, her new friend.

“I’ll talk to you about the cat later,” I warn as my man leans in for a kiss from me.

“Whatever you say, beautiful.”

“I take it you didn’t find Adam?”

“Nope.”

“Ask him about your competition.” Link chuckles and winks at Kimber. “Hey girl, go get me a beer.” That’s code for I want to talk to your mom alone.

“What competition?” I look back at Prodigy as he shoots daggers with his eyes at my brother.

“Nothing.”

“Doesn’t sound like nothing.”

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Hmm. We’ll see.”

“Wasn’t any sign of the fucker anywhere we checked or at the school. I’ve gotta get home to have dinner with the family.”
