“Zoe?”

“Yeah?”

“We don’t really have time for whatever it is you’re doing to your rubber boots.”

“Right. Sorry. It’s the first time I’ve had a chance to wear them.”

“Lord, give me strength,” I mutter under my breath as I walk out the door.

We get to the clubhouse and Zoe goes to Prez’s office to check on Kieleigh while I question Angel at the bar.

“Like I told Murder. She knocked on my door last night and asked if I’d mind watching the kid. Just look in on her every few hours since she was asleep. I didn’t think much of it until this morning when I woke up to the sound of her crying for her mom. I gave it a few minutes but noticed she was still whining. I went right in and got her calmed down. Fixed her breakfast and checked with Bridger since he was working security and was about to switch shifts with Trenton to see if he saw Marie come back last night. He didn’t even know she had left.”

“What time did you last see her?”

“I don’t remember the exact time. May be around nine or ten. Somewhere in there.”

“She didn’t say where she was going?”

“No. I didn’t ask. She’d done it a few nights before, too. I figured she was sneaking out to meet her baby daddy or whatever. She kept talking about how she missed him.”

“You said she’d done it before. Was she out all night then?”

“No. She was back after a few hours. I fell asleep around one and figured she’d be back when I woke up. Geez, what’s with all the questions? You sound like a cop. Are you going to read me my rights too?”

“Answer his questions, smartass.” Prez growls at her.

Angel’s eyes widen like she may wet herself. Stupid bitch. Like Prez would ever step out on Alexa. Man went through hell to make her his ol’ lady. There’s no chance of him ever jeopardizing what they have. If she saw the way Angel is practically drooling over him, she’d claw her damn eyes out.

“I really don’t know much about her. If I think of anything, though, I can call you, but I’m not sure I have your number.” She flutters her lashes, pressing her tits together, trying to create the illusion of bigger cleavage.

“You don’t need my number. You can inform any of my guys whatever it is. They know how to relay a message.”

She pushes off from where she was leaning across the bar and pretends to start cleaning.

“Any idea where Bridger is this morning?”

“Already called him. He was at his mom’s. Should be getting here soon.”

“Thanks, Prez. You mind if I hang in your office with Zoe and the kid until he gets here?”

“Help yourself. I’ll send word. We’ll question him downstairs.”

I move off and head down the hall to his office to update Zoe. Prez wanting to question him in the basement doesn’t sound good for the brother, but I suspect it has more to do with him missing Marie sneaking off the property that him thinking he has any involvement with her disappearance.

Lightly tapping on the door, I announce my presence, “Hey.”

Zoe is sitting in Prez’s high back leather chair with Kieleigh and the tablet in her lap. The sight has my chest squeezing tight. I can see what she meant about the child’s resemblance to Kiesha. Similar hair color. Well before she dyed it that pink shade. It’s not only that. The shape and color of their eyes. The slopes of their noses. Practically a copy and paste job.

“Waiting on Bridger. He was working the gate until early this morning. Hopefully, he’ll have something to report. If not, I don’t know where to look.”

“I can call and ask Louella to see if her car has been moved.”

“Good idea. I’d forgotten about it. Should have been one of my first moves.”

“Don’t beat yourself up. You’ve had plenty on your plate. Can I dial out on this line?” She reaches for the phone on Prez’s desk.

“Go for it. It’s a secure line.”
