Page 62 of Trusting The Biker

I can say I never thought I’d be babysitting in a biker bar. I glance around for a clock. I left my purse in my car and that’s where my cell phone is. I don’t want Kiesha to get home from school and wonder where I am.

Angel returns with a sippy cup and cheese crackers as Prodigy comes up from downstairs.

“Thank you,” I mouth at Angel. “Any news?”

My man kisses my forehead then leans in to whisper in my ear so Kieleigh can’t hear him. I don’t take this as a good sign. “She got a ride to her car, and we have no clue where she is. Bridger is seeing if he can track her phone, but that takes time we don’t have.”

“Can he do that? I thought that was for TV.”

“If he can get logged into her account, he might be able to do the find my phone thing.”

“Oh. Well, let’s hope he can. In the meantime, I thought I should take Kieleigh home with me. I want to run by work and see if there’s anything in her file like allergies or whatever. Anything that will help me take care of her until…you know.”

“Good idea. I’ll follow you home and stay until Jimmy or Nav can get over to keep watch. They may show back up for the kid.”

“That would be a good thing, wouldn’t it?”

“Guess that depends on how you look at it. Personally, I think she’d be better off if they never come back.”

“Yeah, but then what would happen to her?”

“We can raise her.”

“What?”

“We’d treat her better, and she’d have family. Her sisters.”

“I don’t know…I. That’s a lot to think about and we don’t even know where they are.”

“Something to take into consideration, beautiful.”

His suggestion has me stunned. I mean, I suppose it isn’t out of the question. I took the classes to be a foster parent when we were setting up for the daycare. One of Kiesha’s friends was having a rough time, and I thought if I was an approved foster, we could take them in.

This is too much. Right now, we need to focus on finding both Marie and Adam.

“Be careful. Don’t squeeze her.” Kiesha is showing Kieleigh how to pet FB. Short for Fire Ball.

Such a silly name, but she’s not my cat. Kiesha is smitten with her little sister. I keep reminding her she isn’t her personal doll. She’s already had her in her room to do her hair and makeup.

They even tortured poor Jimmy by painting his toenails hot pink.

There wasn’t anything helpful or the least bit useful in Marie’s paperwork. She listed Lily as an emergency contact. Lily is great and will do anything to help anyone.

And one thing she doesn’t do is push for personal information. As privacy and safety are her number one concern with the women she helps. Some of them prefer to remain anonymous all together. Which is completely fair and understandable. It simply doesn’t do me any good right now when I really need to locate Marie for the sake of her daughter.

What if she’s missing and Adam turns up to take Kieleigh? I won’t be able to deny him access to her. Not legally. He could accuse me of kidnapping her. Rightfully, he’s her father. I have no claim to her, but I’d feel compelled to protect her from him. The same as I have my own girls.

Almost all members of the club are out looking for Marie and her car. Prodigy wanted us to go back to the clubhouse, but we’re all more comfortable here. Nav and Kimber went to pick up dinner. Fast food isn’t always my first choice, but most kids love chicken nuggets.

“Kitt, kitty.” Kieleigh squeals, chasing after FB.

Some Disney princess movie is playing on the Tv. It seems like not that long ago my girls were young and all they cared about was playing with dolls. Prodigy’s suggestion that we raise Kieleigh stays at the forefront of my mind. I’ve never thought about having more kids until these past few weeks.

I’d resigned myself to the fact that my girls were practically grown and that I was going to be alone. Now I have this wonderful man who wants me to start over. To give him a family. My thoughts are all jumbled, and I’m distracted by all the what ifs.

The sound of glass shattering in the kitchen has Jimmy, Kiesha, and me all jumping to our feet and rushing toward the sound, worried that Kieleigh has gotten hurt.

Jimmy gets in the room first, followed by me, then Kiesha.
