Stella and I stare at each other once he’s gone.

“Guess this is my cue to go home.”

“Or you could stay. That is, if you don’t have other plans.”

“I don’t know. I have a hot date waiting for me at my place. You could join us if you want to.”

Stella arches a brow and I see a flash of anger in her eyes.

“The tag on her collar said Whiskers. I was thinking about sharing my brownies with her.” I grin.

“You’re an asshole. You have my cat? I didn’t realize she got out. Thank you.”

“Taking care of your pussy is my pleasure.”

“Okay. Nope. Not a fan of you saying it like that. Never do that again.”

“Noted. We doing this at my place or yours?”

“And what is it you think we’re doing?”

“I’m sampling your moist goods.”

She scrunches her nose. “I hope you’re still talking about the brownies.”

“If you say so.” I pull her up from the chair.

“There is something seriously wrong with you,” she mutters as I lead her across the hall.

“Are you only figuring that out now? But hey, what’s that say about you? You’re coming to my place.” I open the door.

“Spoiler alert. I only want some brownies and my cat, but I might stay for you if you ask nicely.”

I crash my mouth down on hers, plunging my tongue deep into her mouth. Fire explodes in my veins as I get lost in her.

“Mm.” she moans into my mouth and then the cat meows, breaking her focus. “I should let her in and feed her.”

“How about I do that while you get naked?”

“That’s not asking nicely.”

“Who said I was asking?”

“I’ll do it. It’ll be faster if I feed her.”

“Don’t keep me waiting too long.” I grin and pull out the brownies.

“You better save me one.” She blows me a kiss and takes the cat to her place.

I bite into the brownie, and chocolate heaven explodes in my mouth. Fuck, that’s good. I scarf down a few and need something to wash them down. I go to my fridge and hope that When Kimber did a grocery run earlier that she bought milk.

As I’m taking a glass out of the cabinet. What sounds like a muffled gunshot sounds from across the hall. I drop the glass, ignoring it shattering on the tile of the floor, and run toward Stella’s apartment.

Chapter 13

Taking Whiskers back to my place, I can’t figure out how she got out in the first place. I’ve been super careful about not letting her run out the door. I should’ve gotten that security camera when I had my locks changed.

As I enter my apartment, someone grabs me from behind, clamping a gloved hand over my mouth to prevent me from screaming.
