“So, we will need your first and last month’s rent and the deposit. There is a deposit for pets and an extra fifty dollars added to the monthly rent. The last owner had a cat, but the carpet will be shampooed. The unit will be cleaned, professionally.”

I nod. “Does the cat come with the unit?”

“No.” The woman smiles at me. “A neighbor took in the cat.”

“Wait, did someone die in the apartment?”

“She passed away at the hospital.”

I scratch the back of my neck. “Good to know.”

Her lips purse. “You’re not freaked out by that, are you?”

“Nah. I’m not afraid of a ghost.” I hand over the money order while thinking if there were any, I could always ask Bianca to work her magic.

“Perfect. I would offer you a tour and give you your key, but the apartment isn’t quite ready yet. Someone is in the process of cleaning the apartment.”

“That’s all right. I have to pack and rent a truck. All that good stuff.”

“Do you have any questions for me? Most things should be outlined in your welcome package.”

“Nah. I think I’m good.”

“Welcome to Riverside, Trenton.”

“Thank you.”

“Come back on Friday for the key. We’ll have your unit ready.”

“See you then.”

As soon as I step out of the office, my cell is ringing. Link.

Shit.

“Lo.”

“Want to tell me why my niece was seen on the back of your bike?” He roars, making me glad I’m nowhere near him. The dude is crazy as fuck when it comes to protecting his family. We all thought he would kill Nav when he found out about him and Kimber.

“She needed a lift. Nothing more than that. Was only doing what anyone else would have.”

“Was she with Jimmy?”

“You’d have to ask him about that.” I don’t want to rat him out, but I’m sure as shit not catching Link’s wrath for their bullshit.

An annoyed grumble that sounds a lot like him threatening to stick his boot up his ass sounds as he ends the call. I sure as fuck wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that. Link has some big ass feet. Fucking sasquatch size.

I take a stroll around the complex and check out the parking situation at my building. I only get one parking spot and one guest pass for the visitor’s lot, which I’ll be using for my truck when I don’t park my bike at the club’s garage in the winter when I can’t ride.

There’s some chick with a nice ass tugging a box of books into the breezeway. “Want some help with that?”

She positions herself upright and turns around to face me. Bright green eyes fanned by thick lashes meet my gaze. Thick red lips adorned with a silver lip ring part. Dressed in a vintage Rolling Stones tee shirt and jeans with the knees ripped out, she’s gorgeous. “No thanks.” Her voice glides over my skin, smooth as velvet. Sultry as a sex kitten. Recognition hits me square in the gut. She’s the podcast bitch.

Holy fuck. I knew her voice was hot, but the total package in front of me is even better. Karma must be repaying me for all my good deeds today. What are the odds of me running into her like this? Not highly likely unless Bianca worked some of her witchy woo magic, but hell, I’m not sure even she has this kind of power.

“I’m Trenton. I’ll be moving in when the space is ready.”

Her eyes narrow on me and her lips twist up like she just tasted something bad. “Guess that makes us neighbors.”
