It's too much. I don’t know whether I want to push him away or pull him closer, but it doesn’t matter. He never stops pounding into me, doesn’t stop massaging my clit as waves and waves of pleasure roll through my body.

Panting heavily, my vision slowly comes back into focus. His hips start to jerk unevenly as he grunts. Draven’s breathing is ragged when he roars, the warmth of his release spilling inside of me, my inner walls still pulsing around him.

He holds me tighter to him as he twists my head, capturing my lips in a searing kiss. The peak of his climax fades, but he continues to slowly drive himself into me. Causing my already oversensitive clit to flutter again.

I feel his teeth against my lips as he smiles against my mouth with a knowing smirk. “I love how greedy your cunt is for me.”

“Only for you,” I breathlessly say against his lips.

He groans, swallowing roughly as he dips his head to nip at my neck. “Let’s get you cleaned up.” A soft kiss eases the sting from his teeth. “As much as I’d love to sink my cock into you all night, we have to rest.”

The truth of his words hurtles me back to what we have to do. That nagging worry trickling back into my mind.

“I’m scared.” Those two words tumble out without thought. But when the two of us are in the dark together, it makes me feel like my secrets are safe. That they won’t exist once the sun rises.

He pulls out of me as I turn to face him, placing my hand over the scar on his heart. “I’m scared of losing you,” I whisper.

Cupping the nape of my neck, he pulls me in roughly, pressing his forehead to mine. Our eyes close, never wanting this night to end.

“You won’t.” His voice sounds pained.

When I open my eyes again, his piercing blue ones are already zeroed in on me.

“I’m not going anywhere.” His jaw clenches as he exhales a shaky breath. “I could never leave you.” But a flash of what looks like anguish shutters in his irises before it's gone. As if it was never there.

No matter how many times I check, I don’t find any worry in his eyes the rest of the night. Even when he washes me in the tub, my body seated between his legs as the steam billows around us. The silence is comfortable as he peppers tender kisses to the tops of my shoulders.

Once we’re both clean and dry, he tucks me into his body, tangling our legs together in bed. His arm drapes over my waist in a secure hold as his lips press a kiss to the top of my head, inhaling deeply. He whispers how he wants to hold me like this every night in his arms. As he says it, I can feel the love that bleeds into his words through the bond. It makes my eyes start to well with the force of it.

Except, I can’t stop the unsettling feeling that has me on edge. And as my eyes close, I begin to drift off to sleep with trepidation trailing my every thought.

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

Emma

Iwake up feeling like I never slept. As if I shut my eyes only for Draven to gently shake me awake, telling me it’s time to get ready. Even now, my eyelids feel heavy as I struggle to keep them fully open, rubbing them with fisted hands while holding back a yawn.

Meanwhile, Fynn is so awake and lively, I almost want to ask if he stole the sleep right from my body.

“All right, let’s do this!” Fynn’s voice cheers as I turn to see him throw a fist in the air.

While Draven hands out the weapons he sharpened and polished, I make sure to lock eyes with Cora and Kye. Silently asking if they are ready because I will not love them any less if they wish to back out. Though, everyone has made it very clear that they are set on their decision. Both of them give a firm nod with a soft smile, making my heart clench.

“Secure your weapons,” Draven tells us all before going over the plan one final time. When we all feel confident in what we have to do, Draven stands directly in front of me. His hands rise up to his chest, placing his palms up and his wrists bared to me.

“Time to make me your prisoner.” His voice holds an air of playfulness, but his eyes are hard, focused.

My smile falters as I wind shadows around his wrists. A small trickle of fear skates down my spine as I flick my eyes away from his. I want so badly to protect him because I know how cruel this world can be. I was born with many monsters dwelling in every corner, and the only way I survived was to slay them. But Whiro? I hate to admit that he’s the scariest one of all.

The one who stole my mother’s life.

The one who killed Draven’s father.

And the one who will wipe my friends away without a thought.

But then, there’s Draven… the one he truly wants, and it kills me to not know why. To not understand why out of every soul in the realm of Deyadrum, he wants my mate.

There is no doubt that he gladly will rip away my love, taking my heart with him.
