No, that wasn’t true.

I did have a body. I could still feel my wet feet and the cold wind breezing against my skin, even if I could not see them.

“It feels weird,” Aislinn’s voice came from my right.

I nodded, then realized how stupid that was. Luckily, Aislinn didn’t see it.

“Yes,” I said.

“You’ll get used to it,” Lady Cara said.

“You can still see us?” I asked.

“I can,” she replied quickly. “I can see myself too, but I know how it must feel.”

“How do we know where we put our feet?” Aislinn asked. “It’s weird to walk like this.”

“You don’t normally watch your feet, do you?” I asked. “If you think about walking, you can’t.”

“That’s how it goes,” Lady Cara said.

I didn’t know what Aislinn was doing, but I took a few steps inside the house and knew that it did not feel any different.

“Where will we go?” Lady Cara asked.

“Igraine’s Inn,” I replied. “That’s the only place we know that hasn’t been raided in the last raids.”

“How will we get there?” Lady Cara asked.

I hesitated. Perhaps because she could see my expression even though I could not see hers, Lady Cara replied quickly.

“I’m asking only because you guys cannot see each other or me,” she said. “And we might not be able to talk outside. Decide on a path now so that you don’t try to take different routes once we get out. I’ll be able to follow you, but if there are soldiers outside, we might not be able to talk.”

“You did this before,” I commented.

“I did,” Lady Cara said. I didn’t see her expression but her tone told me what we were both thinking. She had hidden herself like this when she killed Master Leo.

“We’re not that far,” Aislinn said. “We’ll take the road by the river and then turn north when we see the bakery. Then, we’ll walk straight until we reach the inn.”

“Great,” Lady Cara replied. “Shall we?”

I nodded. After all, she could see us.

One of them opened the door. It was odd walking beside someone I could not see, and once I stepped on Aislinn’s feet and made her shriek before we even got out, it became clear how difficult it actually was.

“I should stay in between you,” Lady Cara said. “Here, grab my arm.”

I felt her beside me. When I couldn’t do as she said, she grabbed my hand and wrapped it around her arm. She did the same with Aislinn.

“Now, go.”

We left the abandoned house. It was late at night, and there were no soldiers in the part of the street we were on. In the distance, I could see torches flickering as the soldiers carried them to enlighten their path. They were still searching for us, despite the time passed.

We stayed in the dark, Lady Cara leading us. We reached the river without any interruptions and kept our silence as we passed by another group of soldiers.

Lady Cara stopped us when we reached the bakery in the corner. She pulled us to hide behind the building on the opposite side.

“Can you see that woman?” She asked, keeping her voice very low.
