“I would,” she nodded. “But they didn’t even try.”

I realized then. There was no use arguing with her. She wasn’t whole. She had done this to herself and now she could not understand.

She could not feel.

While cutting off her mind magic, she had severed any ounce of empathy she might have had.

She was all alone in her darkness, focused solely on herself.

“This needs to end,” I repeated the words I’d said outside of her mind. “I will stop you.”

“How?” she asked. “Will you kill me?”

“No,” I replied, reaching within her and finding that spot that she had intentionally torn apart many years ago. “I will heal you.”

Chapter 50: Kieran

The queen’s scream stopped the fight for an instant. The soldiers all looked up, recognizing her voice. I did too, our clashing swords lifted and pressing against each other still, I stopped and looked.

They were up on the stage. Together. The queen was on her knees in front of Jasmine.

Their eyes were closed, Jasmine had placed her hands on the queen’s head.

Jasmine looked like a queen herself, knighting a knight.

She was smiling peacefully as the queen screamed in agony.

Her scream made me recoil. It was full of pain and hurt.

“Is she killing her?” Dearen asked beside me. He too had been fighting one of the queen’s elites when the abrupt interruption occurred.

“I hope she is,” I replied.

Lord Tynan and Amarra stood their ground together, further to the platform where Jasmine was. Casja fought in the distance, keeping the queen’s elementals far away from the main square. Brigid was here, despite caution, fighting alongside the monster folk who had managed to subdue the monsters that the queen had created.

Cari was up on the stage with Jasmine, watching Jasmine do whatever she was doing to the Seelie Queen.

Jasmine was so close, and yet, I could not reach her.

The soldier made a move to resume our fight right then. Our swords swirled against each other, creating a double arch in the air. But he was distracted. I used it against him, and kicked his leg, messing with his balance so that I could free my sword from him and use the hilt of my sword to knock him to the ground.
