Time to rip off the Band-Aid.

“They killed them.” Her brows furrowed as she simply nodded again.

Not the reaction I was expecting.

“Why do people want to hurt you?”

“Hmm. Power. Money. Revenge. Take your pick.” I put the Maserati into high gear as we hit the open highway and headed out of town.

“Power? Of what?”

I shrugged, “Territory. Influence. Wealth.”

“And you guys have all of that?”

I nodded with a grin, “And more.”

Catalina sat back in her seat, “I know what you are,” she whispered. “All the meetings. The intimidating men. The guns. The wealth…. The bloodshed.”

I took the next exit and pulled the car over, turning to face her.

“Say it, Catalina. Say it so I know you fully understand who you're dealing with.”

She took a deep breath, holding my gaze.

“Mafia,” she breathed.

Chapter ten

Catalina

They were the bad guys!

The thought swirled in my mind, surprisingly not upsetting me as much as I thought it would. I had been so caught up in finding out who I was that I never questioned the guys about who they were. Dangerous I knew. Wealthy yes. A part of a syndicate, I would never have guessed.

Nico was staring at me intently. “Earlier you said I wouldn’t' hurt anyone intentionally. I have Catalina. I've hurt many, many people. Both men and women. And I haven't lost any sleep over them.” He waited for me to speak but I didn't know what to say. “Do you understand what I'm saying to you Catalina? We are killers!” He grabbed me by the shoulders, making me jump. “I’m a hitman, Angel. I could kill you right now and no one would find a trace of you if I wished it.”

I shook my head. Maybe he was, but I didn't think he'd hurt me. Not intentionally anyway.

“And what about Luca? When he said he was my bodyguard, he really could protect me?”

Nico nodded, “He’s not as good a shot as me when it comes to long distance, but in close contact he'll decimate anyone, including me and Atlas. He dedicates a lot of time to close combat training that has saved our bacon several times during our dealings.”

Makes sense. Explains why his body is so ripped and stone hard. I shivered at the thought.

“And Atlas?” I thought of him as kind and sweet hearted, but I knew better than to think that was the truth.

He smirked, “He’s worse than me. Unhinged and not afraid to get messy. Which is perfect as our enforcer.”

“Enforcer?”

He chuckled, “The guy who makes sure you deliver what you promise.”

I could imagine it now. Atlas’s massive frame hovering over you, cracking his knuckles. He would be intimidating indeed.

Nico leaned in close to my face and whispered against my lips, “Are you scared of us, Catalina? Are you scared of me?”

I gulped, more from the sexual tension that was in the air rather than any fear. I knew I shouldn't, but the fact that they were bad ass, made me want them even more.
