“But what about when you get sick of staying here? You need to get back to New York eventually, right? I . . . I’m scared to go there.” She looked down at her hands. “It’s not even about my fear of leaving the safety of his house. It’s about New York itself.”

“Because that’s where you were hurt,” Liam said quietly.

“Yes.”

“Would it help if I sold everything and we moved here?” Liam asked.

She raised her head. “You’re not serious?”

“Of course, I am.”

“You know Liam doesn’t say something unless he means it,” Nico pointed out.

“But I . . . you can’t do that.”

“Why not?”

“Your home is in New York.”

‘My home is with the two of you,” Liam told her.

“Same,” Nico added.

“But your families—”

“You know I don’t care about my family,” Liam said.

“And I can go back to visit mine,” Nico added. “It’s no different than asking you to move away from yours.”

She guessed so. Still . . .

“Can I think about it?”

“Of course. But just know that if that’s an added stressor, I will take it away,” Liam told her firmly. “I won’t have that causing you anxiety when I can easily fix it.”

Not such an easy fix as he was making it out to be, but she did feel a sense of lightness.

“We’re taking a break from self-defense lessons and from everything else that’s pushing your limits.”

“I don’t need a break,” she protested.

“You do. And we have the whole day together.”

“Whatever will we do with the rest of the day,” Nico mused, wriggling his eyebrows up and down.

She couldn’t help but giggle.

“Is there another reason for your frustration, baby?” Liam asked her. “It’s not like you to get so upset as you did just now.”

“I’m sorry about that,” she said, wincing as she recalled her behavior.

“I’m not sure sorry is enough. You did stomp your foot at me.”

Shoot. She did. She didn’t think she’d stomped her foot since she was a child.

“And she refused to come to you when you told her to,” Nico added.

“Hey, you’re not supposed to give him ammunition!” she protested.
