Not gunna work. I already fucking saw it.

“What the fuck?” I asked again.

Shocked.

Stunned.

Clueless.

Say something!

Meghan fumbled around, moving her lips like she wanted to speak yet she didn’t.

“Do you have any idea what having this in my house could do to me? Or Luke? We have goals. Dreams. Does my career mean nothing to you?” Yell! Shout! I’m sick of this shit.

Luke was right. She does get in my head. Nothing good would ever come of this.

“Calm down. It’s just a little weed. Don’t get your briefs in a bunch.” She opened a little pouch.

“What would your dad say?” He would lose his shit.

“Well, he’s dead. So, don’t think he’ll have much to say.” She stood up from the recliner Luke brought with him from Kentucky.

The person standing in front of me wasn’t the same girl I’d been spending so much time with. She definitely wasn’t the person I spent so long searching for.

“Who are you right now?” I want my Meghan Grace back, not this little brat.

“Me. This is me. This is who I am. I’m not the girl you used to know anymore.” She stepped into me chest.

I’m not sure which was more repelling. The smell or the touch.

“But you already knew that. Remember? You didn’t even recognize me.” She shoved her tiny little finger into my chest.

“Oh we’re back to that now?” We’d already had this fight before.

It was getting old. Quick.

“You know what. You’re right. You’re not the girl I fell in love with.” Liar.

That’s one way of telling her I loved her. It definitely wasn’t how I imagined saying the words.

“Love? Hah! You don’t even know me. How can you possibly love me?” Her eyes looked a little glassy.

Probably the weed.

No way they were tears.

I followed her eyes as she glared at every inch of my body. Slowly taking me in, from my head to my toes… a shiver tore through my body.

“I won’t forget this,” she said with a wicked smirk.

“I will. Get out!” She turned on her heel and walked out of my apartment and out of my life.

Epilogue

Meghan

The sunshine hid behind a big, dark cloud.
