Or, well, what I could remember about it.

It had been my birthday. It should have been a joyous occasion, a memorable one. While I believed it still had the power to be that, I didn’t think it was going to be unforgettable for the right reasons.

The fact I didn’t know everything that had happened was just additional proof I couldn’t do what I’d done ever again. I was convinced I’d never drink another drop of alcohol in my life.

Because Wyatt had been there last night, and I’d danced with him. I was relatively sure I’d had a good time with him, too.

But I couldn’t recall much about what we’d said to one another. And that was what terrified me now.

I’d spent the better part of my day today trying to recall any snippet of our conversation, and with the exception of me remembering I’d landed in his embrace somehow, or that I’d told him I was celebrating my birthday and wanted to dance, nothing else was popping into my head.

I wanted to believe that was a good thing. Maybe it meant I hadn’t said anything I needed to be concerned about.

The only option I had at this point was to call my best friends and see what, if anything, they remembered about our night out together. Perhaps they’d be able to shed some light on things for me, and I could save myself from the embarrassment I’d likely be facing on Monday morning, when Wyatt was sure to meet me for a run.

As though they knew how much I needed them, Brooke and Emily walked through the door of my ice cream shop with big, bright smiles on their faces. That immediately helped to lift my mood. I could at least find some excitement and happiness in knowing they’d clearly enjoyed themselves last night. Because there wasn’t a question that’s what they were here to discuss with me.

“Hey,” I greeted them.

“Hey,” Brooke practically sang in return.

Emily blushed shyly, confirming my suspicions.

If I had to guess, Brooke and Emily had a wonderful time last night, and Brooke decided they needed to come by to share the specifics with me. I could vaguely recall them each with a guy last night, so I could only assume that’s what this visit was about. As much as I was hoping for a bit of insight into whatever they could recall about my evening, I was eager to have a distraction for a bit.

“You two look pleased with yourselves,” I noted as they walked up to sit at the counter.

“We are,” Brooke assured me. “We figured ice cream was the perfect way to celebrate.

Yeah, celebrate and get any scoop they could about my night.

Smiling, I asked, “The usual?”

They both nodded as Emily answered, “Yes, please.”

Before they could dive into the details, I shoveled out the usual for each of them. Emily got cookies ‘n cream in a cup, while Brooke preferred vanilla with chocolate sprinkles in a cone. If it hadn’t been for the nerves I felt in my belly, I might have gotten some for myself. Electing to forego the ice cream, I asked, “So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit mere hours after we were just out with one another?”

“There are a few things we wanted to talk to you about,” Emily shared.

“Like what?”

“Like how great our night was last night,” Brooke bubbled.

“And to discuss the specifics of your night, too,” Emily added.

Either they knew what those specifics were, or they wouldn’t. Figuring it might be best to hear about their evening, I urged them to give me more. “There were those two guys you met last night, right?”

“Yep,” Brooke confirmed. “They’re twins.”

My eyes rounded. “Twins? Are you kidding me?”

Smiles spread across their faces as Emily set her spoon down in her cup and replied, “It’s crazy, isn’t it? They were unbelievable.”

“Oh, give me all the details,” I begged. “What are their names?”

Brooke had swallowed a bite of her cone and wiped her mouth with a napkin before easing some of my overwhelming curiosity. “We don’t know everything there is to know just yet. I mean, obviously, we learned that they’re twin brothers, Clayton and Cameron. They go by Clay and Cam and are twenty-eight.”

This was so exciting. “What do they do?”
