I took a moment to consider their words. There wasn’t anything I didn’t trust my best friends with, so I knew they’d never steer me in the wrong direction. Maybe they were right. Perhaps I needed to put myself out of this constant state of misery and just confront him about it on Monday morning.

“Okay,” I agreed. “I think I need some ice cream now.”

They grinned at me.

I shook my head and rolled my eyes in response.

And for the next twenty minutes, I begged my friends to distract me from my thoughts of Wyatt. They happily agreed and told me all about their upcoming double date. It worked perfectly.

RHEA

I let out a sigh of relief the moment I got back home.

I was looking forward to a quiet night in, relaxing for a bit before catching up on the sleep I didn’t get last night.

The first thing I did was move to my kitchen to take stock of the situation for dinner. I couldn’t quite decide whether I wanted to treat myself to a second night off from cooking by ordering in, or if I wanted to go through the trouble of making myself something to eat.

Unsure what I wanted, I figured it’d be best to tackle something else in the meantime.

After grabbing a quick shower, where I did my best not to allow my mind to get too muddled by more thoughts of Wyatt and what might have been said between us last night, I pulled on a pair of comfy sweats and an oversized sweatshirt.

All I wanted to do was curl up on the couch with my dinner—regardless of where it came from—and watch a movie. But no sooner had I descended the stairs, my doorbell rang.

I was caught off guard, because I hadn’t been expecting any visitors, and my parents and grandparents generally didn’t just show up unannounced.

When I made it to the door and opened it, I audibly gasped at who I saw standing there. “Wyatt,” I said, disbelief and a bit of horror in my tone.

He was here.

On my doorstep.

And his eyes were roaming over me in a way that seemed like he was both surprised and curious about what he was seeing, like he was seeing me for the first time in his life.

Make that two of us.

Beyond saying his name, I was momentarily stunned speechless. My eyes roamed over his face, seeking answers to all the questions in my head. At the forefront of it all, I wanted to know what he was doing here. Despite how hard I searched, I couldn’t find any answers.

“Hi, Rhea,” he finally replied.

I licked my lips. “What are you doing here?”

“Well, I was here to pick you up for the dinner date we agreed to last night, but it seems you aren’t ready for that yet,” he replied, his eyes lingering on my lips. My body went solid as he continued, “Unless, of course, you intended to stay in for dinner after the night we had.”

Shit.

Evidently, any hope I’d had about the possibility of there not being any major conversations had between Wyatt and me last night flew out my open front door.

Dinner.

I’d agreed to have dinner with him.

Still in disbelief, I asked, “I agreed to have dinner with you?”

His chin jerked out and off to one side as his brows pulled together. “You don’t remember?”

I bit down hard on my bottom lip, offering a sympathetic look. Disappointment washed over his expression, even as his gaze darkened when it dropped to my mouth again. Ignoring that, I revealed, “I’m sorry, Wyatt, I don’t really remember much about what happened last night.”
