My mind was already whirling with a bunch of thoughts about how I could make this work for us. With my eyes narrowed slightly, I asked, “Who was it who signed that letter?”

Dad lifted the letter in his hands again and answered, “Rhea Marks.”

Nodding slowly, I said, “I’ll head over there this morning, and see if I can at least convince Ms. Marks to sit down with me, so we can discuss it.”

“Please don’t fuck it up,” Cooper warned me.

My eyes snapped to his. “What would make you think I would do that?”

He shook his head. “Nothing, other than the fact that if you did, Liam and I are going to wind up in endless meetings again.”

“Well, if that happened, I’d never hear the end of it,” I fired back. “Give me the afternoon to figure this out. I’m not suggesting I’ll have anyone signing on the dotted line today, but hopefully we can open the lines of communication and can start negotiating.”

“Start negotiating what?”

At the sound of my mom’s voice, I spun around to see her stepping into my dad’s office. She stopped just inside the door, and my dad didn’t hesitate to stand from his desk to move toward her and give her a kiss. “Hi, darling. We’re discussing the theme park expansion project.”

“Oh? What’s going on with it? Did you hear back from them?”

“Yeah.”

“And?” she pressed eagerly.

Dad sighed. “And now we’re hoping Wyatt can go smooth things over and convince them to reconsider it.”

A proud look washed over my mom’s face as she turned her attention to me. “Well, then we have nothing to worry about, do we?”

I loved my mom’s faith in me. I don’t think there was anything in the world Evelyn Westwood believed her children couldn’t accomplish.

“I’m certainly going to try my best,” I promised.

She moved toward me, squeezed my arm, and said, “You’re just like your father, Wyatt. You don’t give up until you accomplish your goals. I have no doubt you’ll make this happen, too.”

“Thanks, Mom.”

“Can I get back to work?” Cooper asked, standing from the couch he and Liam had been sitting on.

“Another dreadful meeting, Coop?” Mom asked him, her tone teasing.

He moved toward her, kissed her on the cheek, and said, “Sorry, Mom. I know you all keep trying to pull me into them in hopes my opinion will change, but it’s not going to happen.”

“I know. But we love having you in them, so we’ll keep trying,” she warned him.

Cooper turned his attention to me. “Just call me when you figure something out with this situation.”

“I will.”

As Cooper walked out, Liam moved toward our mom. He gave her a hug and said, “Hey, Mom. I’m getting back to work, too.”

“Okay, Liam. Don’t work too hard.”

He gave her a nod, but it wasn’t one that meant he was going to hold himself back from working.

Knowing that, when he glanced at me, I asked, “You’ve got enough to keep you busy until I get this sorted?”

“Spring is approaching, Wyatt. We’ve got opening weekend to prepare for, so I’ve got plenty to keep me busy for now.”

“Alright. I’ll keep you posted on where things stand as soon as I have some answers,” I promised.
