I pressed my lips together. I was accustomed to the kind of attitude Tristan was throwing around, but I’d never seen Wyatt so angry. Angry and protective. I don’t know when it happened, but it was like a switch had been flipped. Wyatt was suddenly stepping into a role I hadn’t realized he’d want to be in, but I couldn’t deny I liked the way he handled himself in it.

“If you even think about doing a single thing to harm one hair on her head, I can promise you’ll be begging for mercy,” Wyatt advised, the tone of his voice low and foreboding.

Okay.

That did it.

If I was honest with myself, the more Wyatt spoke to Tristan and put him in his place while staking his claim to me, the more I was feeling something stirring inside me. And I wanted him to myself right now.

“You need to leave, Tristan. Do not call me again, and don’t ever come back here, or I’ll have you arrested for trespassing.”

There was an extended pause before Tristan’s lip curled in disgust. “Whatever. Suit yourself, you stupid bitch. It’s your loss.”

I felt Wyatt’s body tense beside mine, but fortunately, Tristan turned and walked out of there.

Immediately, I closed the door behind him and locked it. Then I spun around and locked eyes with Wyatt, my chest rising and falling steadily with the increased pace of my breaths.

It was clear he could see something happening inside me, but I wasn’t sure he understood what it was. As he worked to try to figure it out, I decided to put him out of his misery.

“Did you mean it?” I asked.

“Mean what?”

“Are you really starting to fall in love with me?”

His eyes searched my face a long time before he replied, “Every day I’m around you, it gets harder and harder to stop it from happening.”

That was all I needed.

I pushed off the door, stepped forward, and threw my arms over Wyatt’s shoulders as I pressed my lips to his.

He didn’t hesitate to wrap one arm around me and haul me up against his body while his other hand drove into my hair.

Our kiss became heated quickly, Wyatt’s tongue dipping inside to taste me.

It took no time at all for his kiss to consume me completely.

For weeks, I’d convinced myself I wanted not a single thing to do with this man, doing everything I could to push him away. He didn’t let that scare him. He still showed up every single day. And while I might have believed his motives weren’t good in the beginning, he’d cared enough to stick around and prove me wrong.

Now, more than a month later, I was regretting having given him such a difficult time. I’d made him pay for Tristan’s mistakes. Wyatt had met me when I’d been beaten down by heartbreak and legal battles, and it still didn’t matter.

He never walked away. He never gave up. And despite not getting what he had hoped to get from me, he still stayed.

He didn’t deserve an ounce of what I’d given him.

So, I had to make up for it. I had to fix my mistake and show him that he wasn’t the only one who struggled to resist the attraction.

My fingers threaded through his thick, gorgeous locks, which were as soft as I’d imagined from the start, as Wyatt continued to claim my mouth with his own.

As our tongues glided along one another, Wyatt let out a groan, and the sound of it sent a rush of desire right between my legs. My fingertips gripped his hair tighter, and a moan tore up my throat.

I needed more.

I was desperate for it. Desperate for him.

Begrudgingly, I tore my mouth from his, gripped his hair a little tighter, and pressed my forehead against his. Our breathing was labored, our chests rising and falling rapidly.

“Please, Wyatt,” I whispered.
