“You going home?”

“Your wife and mine want pie from Howie.”

I tap a finger to my lips. “And ice cream for the kids?”

Sal grins. “Yes.”

“Need a ride?”

“No. Tony is at the diner. I’m going to walk there.”

Sal gives me a slight tilt of his head and heads into town. He’s dressed in one of his black suits with a white shirt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in jeans. Maybe once in a T-shirt.

Walking back into the clubhouse, I pick up the telephone on the bar top. “Hello?”

“Dane, Sheriff Morales. Can you come down to the station?”

“Sound official, Carlos.”

“It is.” Sheriff Morales ends the call.

“Great.” I put the telephone back in its cradle and look at Jonas. “You could have told me it was Carlos.”

“What did he want?”

“For me to come down to the station.”

Jonas gives me a lopsided smile. “I called Destiny. She told me to tell you to pick her up on the way through.”

“At least you did one thing right.”

Jonas shrugs. “I figured Carlos would be dragging you in. One of the boys gave Izzy a hard time. He might have wrecked one of her ATVs.”

“Why am I only hearing about this now?”

Jonas looks at King. “We had other things to discuss this morning. I was getting to it.”

It’s going to be one of those days. Walking outside, I get on my Harley and drive the short distance to the law firm where Destiny works. She’s waiting outside with a briefcase in hand, wearing a short black skirt and six-inch heels.

Pulling up next to the sidewalk, I hold out my hand. She places her hand in mine and climbs on the back as though she was born to it.

“You should have worn pants.”

“Why? I’ve got great legs.”

Laughing, I nod. “Yes, you do. And if you tell Kat or Kade I said that, I’ll deny it.”

We ride to the end of Main Street in less than a minute. Destiny climbs off and pulls her skirt down. One of the town deputies whistles at her, and she stares at him with no emotion. Slowly, the grin on his face slips, and eventually, his eyes hit the pavement.

I smirk at her, and she arches an eyebrow at me.

Holding open the door to the police station, she walks in first, puts her briefcase on the counter, and says, “I’m Destiny Bennett, and I’m here with my client, Dane Reynolds, to see Sheriff Morales.”

“Come on, Destiny, it’s me, Frank. I know who you both are.”

“Well, Frank, go relay my message to the sheriff.”

Frank frowns. “Pretty sure he knows who you both are too.”
