He pounds into me, our bodies slick with sweat as we both chase our release. JD’s grin turns into a look of determination.

“Are you close?”

“Nearly there,” I reply.

His eyes shut for the barest of moments and feeling brave I reach down and press on my clit.

“Harder,” I say again.

JD increases his speed and as I press on myself the orgasm hits me hard.

“JD!”

This primal and he growls loudly as my pussy milks him, he thrusts into me all the way, mouth slightly open as he spills his seed inside of me.

JD continues to move in and out of me slowly, until we are both spent. He collapses beside me on the bed and pulls me into his side. JD kisses my temple as his fingers trace patterns across my skin.

Our breathing is ragged and for the first time, I understand how women can commit to one man. How they can trust them with not only their hearts but their souls. I fall asleep with JD’s lips pressed against me and dream of a better life.

“Cheree,” JD says softly, waking me. “There’s a place I have... far from here. In the mountains. It’s mine, only mine. Not even Grim knows about it.”

My head lifts, and I search his face in the dim light. “A secret hideaway?”

“Yeah. A fresh start, maybe... if you want it.” His thumb caresses my jawline, a gesture so full of hope it stings.

“Us? Starting over?” The idea is intoxicating, a new beginning, free from the roar of engines and the specter of violence. A chance to rewrite our story with a different ending.

“Only if you want it.”

There’s a crease between his brows as though he’s unsure of my answer. Silly man. After what we’ve been through and everything we’ve just done, he’s mine as much as I’m his.

“I want it.” I kiss his lips. “But I’ve only ever lived in a city. I’m not sure if I can live in the country.”

JD looks thoughtful and he nods reassuringly. “It’s quiet, the kind of place you can hear yourself think. There’s no one around for miles. But there is a town, it’s small, the people help each other and mind their own business at the same time. We could live off the grid, forge our own path.”

In this stolen moment, we’re no longer fugitives bound by fear. We’re two souls intertwined, daring to envision a life beyond the reach of the Defiant Men MC.

“What about money?”

“I have some, but I would need to work. There’s a crew who work in the mountains clearing trees for the local sawmill. I’ve worked with them before; I could do it again.”

“Do you like that kind of work?”

He smiles and it reaches his eyes, they shine. “Yeah. It’s hard work but satisfying. And the leader of the crew is a good man.”

“It’s safe?”

The smile grows bigger. “Yep.”

I suck in a deep breath. There’s a lot to think about, but staying here and always being afraid of my past isn’t something I can do. I need to bury Cherry and start again. New York was supposed to be my salvation but the night I got into that car with JD, that’s when my life really began.

“When can we leave?”

His arms wrap around me and JD peppers kisses all over my face. “Let’s eat, shower and wait for darkness.”

“Will you tell Grim?”
