“Whatever you choose is fine. If you have any questions about anything, you know where to find me, and if I’m not here, then you go to the front desk and tell them to call me, okay?”

“Okay.” She nodded but she already knew she wasn’t going to bother him again. She’d already taken up enough of his time.

Master Derek squinted at her. “Piper, look at my eyes please.”

She’d never had a harder time obeying someone in her whole life. After about thirty seconds of looking at his eyes and then looking away almost instantly, she was finally able to talk herself into focusing on the spot between his eyes.

“If you have any questions or you need anything, you need to know it’s okay to find me for help. You’re not a burden, you’re not taking up my time, and if I find out you’re struggling and you didn’t come and ask for help, then you and I are going to be having a whole different kind of conversation in this office. Got it.”

She nodded quickly. “Yes, Sir.”

“Good girl. Now run along and get some breakfast and enjoy the rest of your day.”

She got up and got out of there as fast as possible. But once outside the door, she didn’t quite know what to do with herself. Master Derek told her to eat breakfast, but the cafeteria would probably be busy, so she really didn’t want to go in there. Turning to her left, she saw the cafe.

Perfect. She could find something to take back to her room and just breathe for a few minutes. She wanted to look at the 101 class schedule and see which one she might like to attend and then she’d figure the rest of the day out.

CHAPTER FIVE

Catherine sat sipping her coffee as Sam tied his tie in the mirror.

“Feeling better this morning?” he asked.

“I think so. I don’t really know what got into me yesterday.”

“I do,” he told her as he straightened the cuffs of his suit jacket and turned to face her. “You’ve been wanting something for a long time, and it's finally gotten to the point where you can’t ignore it anymore.”

“It’s that obvious?”

“Cat, I know you better than anyone. I know when you're not happy.”

“But that’s just it. I am happy. I just… don’t you feel like something is missing? Like take last night for example. I know how much it fulfills you to take care of me in that way, but you and I both know it’s not in my DNA to let it happen all the time.”

Sam nodded. “Would I like to be able to take care of you more, yes. Do I feel like something is missing because I can’t?” He paused and thought about it a little bit. “Maybe sometimes.”

“See! And I love my clients, but they aren’t mine I want someone who is mine.”

“Just yours?” He raised a brow.

“Okay ours. You know what I mean.”

“I do.” He took her hands and pulled her up out of her seat. “But we discussed this not too long ago. We both have the need to nurture, but I only have room in my bed for one woman. No one else.”

She wrapped her arms around him and leaned her head against his chest. “I know and I agree.” She sighed. “So what do we do?”

“We could talk to Derek.”

The answer was so clear and obvious. Why hadn’t she thought of that?

“I love that plan.”

“It’s settled then. We’ll make an appointment to talk to the boss and see if he can help us out. Maybe we could even just take in a Little who needs a bit of individual attention that they can’t get in a group setting.”

“Maybe.” That was a good jumping off point, but she didn’t want their home to be a revolving door; she wanted someone she could love and be loved by. She wanted something a whole lot more permanent.

“This will be good. You’ll see.” He kissed the top of her head. “Let’s get to work.”

The drive back to the Ranch was a whole lot easier than the drive the night before. She felt like there was a light at the end of the tunnel, like maybe, just maybe she could have her cake and eat it too.
