He picked up the tawse and held it in front of her so she could see it. It was her most hated implement with its split leather strands. The edges almost felt like they were slicing into her skin every time it made contact. They had two of them, a long one and a short one, the long one was more for heavy play sessions. The short one he held in his fist was very specifically for this kind of discipline and she hated it.

“I do trust you!” she argued.

“Do you? Then why couldn’t you let me take care of this?”

That right there was the million-dollar question. “I don’t know,” she answered honestly.

“Well, maybe you should think about it a little bit more while I’m blistering your backside,” he suggested.

She didn’t have a chance to respond before he began lashing her with the tawse. Being spanked was not conducive to being able to think. Especially when it hurt so much. She focused on the pain and nothing else as he silently made his displeasure known with each hard swing of the evil implement.

Catherine couldn’t remember the last time she had cried so much or so hard, but he didn’t stop with the tawse. He swapped implements and laid the cool wood of her hairbrush against her heated flesh.

“Almost done, baby,” he told her.

She needed this so much. She needed him to push her threshold so she could begin to let go of the shitshow that had been her day.

The contrast of the hard wood from the leather of the first two implements really pushed the pain deep and took her breath away. She had a feeling she would still be able to feel the ache when she woke up in the morning and possibly well into her day. Maybe it would remind her just how good she had it with Sam. He was the man of her dreams and he took care of her in more ways than one. He wanted her to be happy and fulfilled and she needed to let him lead in situations where her emotions could get the best of her.

She didn’t know how many strokes he’d given her, but it was a lot and when he finally set the hairbrush down, relief flooded her system.

He flipped her over and lifted her into his arms. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she clung to him for dear life as he climbed into bed with her. He held her in silence while she cried out all off the stress and frustration from the day.

“I love you, Sam,” she told him when she could form words. “I do trust you. I’m sorry my actions made you feel like I didn’t. I wasn’t thinking.”

“I know, baby. I forgive you. I’m okay and we’re okay. I promise.”

“Thank you.” Hearing the exact words she needed to, an exhaustion so deep fell over her and she was physically unable to stay awake.

CHAPTER NINE

Piper was so tired when she got back to her room, but in the best way possible. Sadie had introduced her to a bunch of her friends and she spent the evening laughing so hard at their crazy stories and antics. When she heard about the pranks they had pulled and the love and acceptance they received from their Dominants and the staff of Rawhide Ranch, she finally began to understand just how wrong Alex had been all those years ago.

Falling into bed, she smiled to herself. She felt like she’d been carrying around a thousand pounds of guilt and shame and it had all just disappeared in one afternoon. Kay had told her that Rawhide was a magical place, but she hadn’t quite believed her. Now she did. If Rawhide wasn’t magical in of itself, then the people who lived and worked there absolutely were.

She reflected on the way her day had started out and how hopeless and scary everything had been and how drastically different she felt since she’d run into Sadie at the store. She shot up in bed.

“Oh no!” she screeched at the top of her lungs. She had promised she would text Catherine before five pm and she had completely forgotten.

Frantically, she searched for her phone and then the receipt where Catherine had written her number. The room was a little bit of a mess from when Sadie and she had dug things haphazardly out of her suitcase earlier, and it took a few minutes to find the white slip of paper.

Once she found it, she sat down and stared at her phone. Should she still text so late? What should she say? Would a call be better? She looked at the clock. It was after nine. Not too late, but maybe they went to bed early. How would she know? She didn’t know anything about these people except they were married and they were Ranch staff.

Text was the way better option.

Opening her phone, she typed in the number and then stared at the blinking cursor. Best to just get it over with. She sighed and started typing.

Hi, Miss Catherine. This is Piper from the Ranch store this morning. I’m so sorry for not messaging you like I said I would. I got caught up in the day and completely forgot. I understand if you’re upset with me and don’t want to talk to me, but I wanted to apologize anyway. I hope you had a good day and thank you again for the gifts. ~ Piper

She read it over again and again before forcing herself to send it.

“Now we wait,” she said to the empty room as she stared at the phone. If Catherine had gone to bed, then she probably wouldn’t get a response, so it was silly to torture herself. Guilt sat heavy in her tummy, but she had done what she could and the ball was in Catherine’s court.

She thought back to their meeting and the things Catherine said. She was married and she wanted the three of them to sit down and get to know one another. Why? Were they looking for a third? Piper didn’t like the sound of that at all. She didn’t want to have sex with one person, let alone two. Maybe it was better for all of them that she’d been careless. It definitely saved her from having to have that awkward conversation.

Kay had told her over and over that BDSM was about more than just sex and she knew that too, but most people she’d encountered used it as part of sex or at least a leeway to sex. She didn’t want that. She didn’t need that. She needed the power exchange without the sex. She needed intimacy without sex. She was never going to find someone who wanted the same thing. She’d have to settle for random play partners who would accept her hard limit on sex of any kind.

Curling up in bed, she put her phone ringer on high and turned on her white noise app. She needed to sleep to have energy to keep up with Sadie and the other Littles tomorrow. That thought made her smile, and she was able to calm her brain enough with thoughts of fun as she drifted off to sleep.
