Sam shut the door and approached her desk. She could already tell he was gearing up for a lecture. “This morning went very well I agree, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Pippi may decide she’s not interested in anything more permanent with us and we still don’t know her very well.”

“I don’t need to know any more about her, and as far as my heart’s concerned, I’m all in.”

Sam took a long deep breath. “So, what you’re telling me is I just need to be prepared for however this turns out?”

“Yeah, basically.” She nodded.

“Well, okay then, have you seen Pippi any more today?”

“No, she was hanging out in the Littles’ Wing today, and I didn’t want to suffocate her.”

“Fair enough. But I want to check in with her before we go home.”

“I was thinking we should invite her home with us for dinner. Then we can make sure she’s okay and also have a little bit more time with her.”

Sam smiled. “That’s a good plan, now to find the adorable little redhead.”

“I can text her and I know which suite she is in because I walked her back this morning to make sure she was dressed warm enough for a March Montana morning.” She pulled out her phone and shot off a text. “If we don’t hear back, then we can try calling her room.”

A knock sounded at the door.

“Or maybe she’ll just show up at my door.” Cat all but skipped to answer it.

“You don’t know who it is.” Sam laughed and shook his head.

“How much do you wanna bet?” She bit her lip and winked at him as she opened the door without taking her eyes off him. She knew it was Pippi, she didn’t know how she knew, but she did.

“You win.” He winked back and she turned to see a confused Pippi.

“What did I win?” she asked.

“Dinner at our place, if you want it, of course.”

“Oh.” She smiled shyly. “I think I’d like that. I do want to.”

“How was your day?” Cat pulled her in for a hug and all but melted when Pippi not only accepted but hugged her back tightly.

“It was good. I went to classes and hung out with so many new people and was even included in plans for…. umm… lunch. I didn’t have to sit by myself or anything.”

Sam raised a brow. “Plans for lunch, huh?”

“Yep, so I’ll just go grab some things from my room and then I’ll be ready. I mean if it’s time to go now. Am I riding with you or do I need to call a cab or get a ride or something?”

“What are you more comfortable with?” Cat asked. She wanted Pippi to always feel as comfortable as possible with them.

“Well, I don’t really like driving with strangers, especially at night in places I’m not familiar with but I also don’t want you to have to drive all the way back here again after.”

“How about a slumber party?” Cat hadn’t planned to ask her to stay the night, but now that it was in her head, she was already making plans for how much fun it could be.

“I don’t want to put you out like that either. I have a room here. Maybe we should just eat here?”

Cat’s heart sunk. She didn’t want to spend more time with Pippi in a public space, she wanted her in her space. She wanted to give her a little glimpse of what being their Little could be like.

“If you’re more comfortable with that, that’s fine, but you are not putting us out in any way. Ms. Cat and I would love to have you over and we have a spare bedroom that is always ready for guests.”

Pippi nibbled her lip.

“We could have some dinner, maybe watch a movie or play a game? I think we might even have some ice cream for dessert.”
