“Thank you so much.” Tears pricked her eyes as she tucked the animals into the covers with her. They were so soft and snuggly. “I love them.”

“Good, and you’re welcome. Now sleep well, little one. We will see you in the morning.” He kissed her forehead and gave her one final tuck-in before they left her alone, shutting the light off and closing the door behind them.

Pippi stared up at the ceiling. Was this what she had been missing all these years? Peace, comfort, happiness, contentment. So many positive feelings flowed through her. But one thing bothered her… she was still holding back so much. She used to have so much fun bratting and pranking and that had been her demise. She needed to know for sure that this time would be different. She sighed heavily remembering the upcoming holiday and the plans Sadie and the gang had hashed out. There was only one way to find out if this new future was possible. She was going to have to join in on National Prank Day and the Dentens were going to have to be her targets.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Chapter Fourteen

Pippi paced on the playground waiting for her friends to come out from breakfast. She had breakfast with the Dentens before they came back to the Ranch that morning. It had been a super peaceful morning, but she had plans in her head and she couldn’t wait to see them through. The nervous energy coursing through her veins had her randomly giggling to herself. She probably looked like a psychopath.

Finally, the bell dinged and Littles began to flow out. Bouncing on her toes, she waved to Sadie as she came out the door followed by Wren, Callie, Hayleigh, and another Little she had yet to meet.

“Morning, Pippi!” Sadie bounced over. “This is Heaven. She works in the kitchen, but it’s her day off. She makes the most amazing desserts.”

“She can make dessert look like vegetables,” Callie informed her.

“I can make dessert look like almost anything.” Heaven shrugged.

It wasn’t presented as an arrogant statement, just fact. A fact that Pippi completely believed.

“That’s so cool! So are you participating in prank day?” Pippi asked.

Heaven smiled and nodded excitedly. “I’m always down for a good prank.”

“Well, guess what? I’m in too.” Pippi finally got to reveal her excitement.

“Yes!” Hayleigh pumped her fist. “The more of us that do it, the more the wrath will be divided.”

The entire group went silent and turned their attention toward Haleigh.

“You can’t honestly believe that, can you?” Heaven asked gently.

“I can hope!” Hayleigh threw her hands in the air.

“You’re so adorably delusional.” Sadie giggled.

Hayleigh huffed and crossed her arms across her chest.

Pippi giggled at all of their antics. “Does everyone know what they’re doing?”

They all nodded.

“I’ll need a little help with mine,” Sadie told them. “I already have the supplies, I just need help with execution.”

“I can help,” Pippi offered.

“You sure?” Sadie asked. “Actually, are you sure about participating at all? I don’t want you to feel pressured to do something you’re not comfortable with.”

“To be honest, this entire trip has been a series of doing things that I’m not comfortable with, but it’s all turned out pretty great, so why not continue the streak?”

“That’s the spirit!” Sadie grabbed her in a hug. “I’m so happy for you. Now, let’s get down to business.”

They all huddled closer together to discuss their plans. Pippi shared hers which was going to unfortunately include a little white lie to the Dentens, but it was necessary to see the plan through. She listened to the genius ideas of the others as well as made plans with Sadie on how she could help her. By the time the bell rang, they all knew exactly what was going to happen, well, all except Hayleigh. She had made a promise she would do something, but she wasn’t exactly sure what that something would be.

The day seemed to fly by which Pippi was thankful for because if she had to wait any longer to put her plan in motion, she was going to talk herself out of it. She was thankful that she’d spent the day in the Littles’ Wing because if she had been alone with her thoughts, she would have definitely chickened out. Hurrying back to her room, she grabbed her phone to text Ms. Cat.
