“Why should I have to? She’s your fan. You’re the one who should’ve drawn a clear line in the sand to stop her from thinking that it’s okay to pull a stunt like that.” Xolani drew in a shaky breath. “I’m getting heated just thinking about you two’s nonsense.”

Xolani hopped to her feet so she was standing over him. Fury had replaced the coldness in her expression, and her voice rose with every word she spoke.

She continued, “See, this is why I can’t stand your ass. You know this woman wants you, and yet you were bold enough to let her sit down with me. You know she’s a stalker and yet you were kee keeing with her and giggling over her stupid photos. It’s like I wasn’t even there.”

Barry started, “I was not gig_”

But Xolani cut him off before he could even finish the sentence. Vibrating with fury, she said, “Do you know how ridiculous you sounded and looked? You’re lucky that I didn’t cut off your dick. Next time you bring that woman around me, come with a shovel to dig your grave.”

It was at that moment that Barry realized what was actually happening. Xolani had never gotten this angry with him before. Never. But right now, she was on the verge of exploding just because another woman had interrupted their dinner.

All his anger faded. It was replaced by disbelief as the implications of the situation sunk in. Was this what he thought it was?

Now completely calm, he reached up to take her wrist. “Xo, calm down.”

Her eyes shot darts at him as she jerked her hand from his grip. “Don’t tell me to calm me down, you disrespectful angry.”

“Why are you so angry?” He stood so they were toe-to-toe.

“I just told why I was angry.” Xolani jabbed a finger into his chest repeatedly. “You brought that woman_”

Barry grabbed her finger and held it still. “Are you sure it’s not because you’re jealous?”

“Wh- what?” Xolani jerked her head backward and blustered. “Jealous? Me? I’m not jealous.”

He studied her face keenly. “You look jealous.”

“I don’t look_ I’m not jealous.” She yanked her finger from his grip and backed up two steps away from him. “Why would I be jealous? Of what? Of you and dumbass Misty? Please! If you and her want to take photos or selfies and cuddle with each other, go ahead. I don’t care.”

His lips twitched, but he held in the smile that threatened to break out. “You look like you care.”

“I don’t.” She folded her arms across her chest. “I don’t give a damn.”

If she really didn’t care, she wouldn’t be this furious.

As friends-with-benefits, they weren’t supposed to care what the other did with other women or men. No feelings, including jealousy, were supposed to be involved. Yet here Xolani was displaying jealousy in all its glory.

Seeing her like this should’ve put Barry on his guard. But it didn’t. He felt oddly elated, and his heart swelled with thrill.

He couldn’t hold back his smile anymore as he said, “I think you’re jealous.”

“And I think you should go.” She turned on her heels and started moving. “I’m tired of this pointless conversation.”

He followed her. “We’re not done talking.”

“I’m done.” She stomped to the entryway and opened the front door. Her expression icy, she ordered, “Get out. Go back to your precious Misty.”

He walked to the door but didn’t get out. He pushed the door and closed it. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“Yeah, you are.” She tried to open the door again. “Get out.”

“No.” He was stronger than her, so it was easy to keep the door closed with just his palm on it. “Our conversation isn’t over.”

“It is to me.” Her face was a mask of fury as she struggled to yank the door open, all while Barry kept it firmly shut. When she saw that what she was doing wasn’t working, she tried to shove him away. But he captured her hand just as it met his chest.

She demanded, “Let me go.”

He didn’t let her go. Instead, he used his body to push her backward and trap her against the wall.
