"Oh, I made my interest pretty clear. News travelled fast and now you’re a target."

My heart thuds. "What are we going to do?"

"You are going to relax and I'll take care of everything," he says.

"But what if these people come back?" I ask, my heart still thudding in fear. "What if they come to my home?"

He takes my hand and holds it in between his. "I know this is difficult, but I can't allow you to go back home. It's insanely dangerous."

My eyes widen. "So where will I stay?"

"Here. With me. I'll take care of you."

“What about my job?” I ask, panic beginning to set in.

“We’ll figure it out. I promise.”

True to his words, I don't go home. I'm shown to a gorgeous room with cream finishings and a gorgeous view.

One of the house helpers is assisting me to get settled in. "Don has sent for articles of clothing for you. Your wardrobe should be stocked by tomorrow morning."

Don?

I am not naive. He’s not an oil mogul. What oil mogul goes around carrying guns, is surrounded by gun-wielding men, and has enemies that are after him?

None. I think.

This confirmation that he’s connected to the mafia explains the reaction his presence caused in school.

"Thank you," I say before she leaves.

I spend a while looking around and, with some help, I locate Saint's room.

I knock once before opening the door to find him seated on his bed. He's still dressed as he was earlier, sans the guns.

"Is everything to your taste?" He asks as I walk in to sit next to him on the bed.

"Yes, everything is fine." I can't stop the pang of sadness I feel. Sure, everything is fine but I can't forget how terrified I was. Not to mention my fear of losing my job.

He must see something on my face because his fingers come up to lightly trace my cheeks.

"I'm sorry this is happening. It wasn't my intention."

He genuinely looks apologetic and I can't help smiling at him. "It's okay. I was just scared out of my mind."

His fingers trace my cheeks and then dip to lightly run across my lips. "I will never let anything happen to you. Anything."

The tension that had blanketed us yesterday returns in full force today and I gasp as the heat in his eyes makes my core clench, wanting something it has never had.

When his fingers slip down to wrap around my neck and his mouth descends on mine, I stop thinking.

He kisses like he looks, hard and dangerous and I'm left in awe. His tongue slips past my lips and, gaining some courage, I suckle softly and he groans.

His groan is all the encouragement I need and I move closer, gripping his shirt and trying to tug him to myself.

He rips his mouth away and I hold back a frustrated sigh.
