Will it always be this easy? Or am I just full of your power right now?

I believe this is now yours, but we’ll try it again in a few days to be sure.

Marco turned to Ryan and told him, “If Leonardo appears, I will help you slaughter him.”

Chapter 20

Cora

The best laid plans, right?

Nine days of careful planning to keep me safe, and the night had barely begun.

Normally, when I finish on the boulder, Kirsten and I hold hands and she floats us to the ground. Tonight, however, I could float myself, so that’s exactly what I did.

I was barely off the boulder when I was struck in the side hard enough my spine broke and my ribs were crushed. I couldn’t breathe, and I drew on Marco and my wolves to try to heal myself before I died.

And then everything went black.

Chapter 21

Cora

I awoke in darkness. Total darkness. I tried to access my wolf, but I couldn’t, so I swallowed my panic down and drew on my training. I was on my back, my body in water, my head on an incline so I could breathe. My wrists were chained to the sides of whatever I was in, as were my ankles. I couldn’t telepath anyone, I couldn’t feel Marco or Kirsten, and I couldn’t access my wolf.

Was I in another realm? Or had Leonardo somehow broken my connections? It’d been done before, and Leonardo was without a doubt strong enough to do so, but it made more sense that he’d taken me to… where?

I knew where I was as soon as I considered the possibilities. I was in Svartalfheim, land of the dwarves, and I was in a cave without even a tiny bit of a light source. Odds were, the chains had been magicked to keep me from changing into my wolf.

I was naked, and someone had crammed a butt plug up my ass.

I wiggled my toes and fingers, but didn’t pull on the chains yet. I’d made a tiny bit of noise when I’d originally tested my restraints, and I wasn’t ready to bring people to me just yet.

I needed a plan.

I tried reaching out to Mordecai, but again, nothing was there. No one. At all. I was alone in this world, so I’d just have to rescue myself and then figure out how to get back to my realm.

I knew Kirsten would go to all of the realms and check for me, but how long had I been here? And what was Leonardo doing to block me?

I folded my thumb in and tried to make my hand as small as possible, but the chains were expertly put on and I wasn’t getting out of them without help.

I was a little hungry, but I wasn’t starving. I wasn’t thirsty either, but I had a feeling the water I was in was magicked to keep me hydrated. It felt slipperier than regular water, but not oily. It’s possible there were calories in the water I was absorbing as well.

I tested the chains a little more, and when rattling them didn’t bring anyone, I softly said, “Hello?”

The echoes told me I was in a decent-sized room, but not huge. Perhaps fifteen to twenty feet long and wide. I turned my head and spoke the same word with the same intonation, and figured out which direction the hallway came in from.

You never know which little piece of knowledge will help. I wasn’t in a position to learn much about my surroundings, but I worked to figure out everything possible.

“She’s awake, Master,” a voice said, and I thought it was coming from down the hallway I’d located earlier.

“I’m aware. Remain where you are.”

Footsteps approached. When he neared, I could see the vampire’s eyes glowing with power, and a tiny bit of his face around his eyes, but nothing else.

“Leonardo, I presume?”

“Yes. It’s taken me four days to go through your mind and clear away all your blood bindings. You’re a blank slate, now, and in a few hours, I’ll bind you to me.”
