I go with my original intent when I took her. "Her father took something from me once. You know how it is. An eye for an eye."

He smirks around his cigar. “Yes, I do know. Eye for eye. You took what belonged to my son.”

“There are plenty of other women for him. You and I both know that Romeo doesn’t give a fuck about her specifically. Let me keep her and you can have Giovanni repay his debt some other way.”

He snorts. “Giovanni has nothing else.”

“Then join me and we can take him down. Split his territory. But the woman stays with me.”

He sighs and flicks his cigar. “There’s no splitting?—”

“Fine. Take it. Just tell me where Elena is, and I’ll help you bring him down.”

“I don’t need your help. And what makes you think I know where she is?”

“Because you have Giovanni's thumb up your ass, and if it isn’t him, it’s Romeo, who does all his thinking with his dick.” I narrow my eyes at him. “Did you know he came into my club? Tried to have me killed.” I shake my head. “I doubt it. It was such a dumb plan. I know you’re smarter than that.”

Tiberius has a look of distaste that I know is for his son. "Romeo." He exhales the smoke from the cigar. "The boy has never been anything but a disappointment."

"Then it should be no loss when I put a bullet between his eyes." The words hang in the room, a promise I intend to keep.

"Ah, but what kind of father would I be then?" His chuckle is dry, hollow.

"Romeo's a liability to your business, and you know it." I lean forward, feeling like I’m making headway. I have no intention of working with the man, but if I can have him on my side for a moment, I’ll get Elena back and then kill them all. "He's reckless, weak. And his next mistake could be your downfall."

"Perhaps," he concedes. A smirk curls his lips. "Little King, you have some nerve coming into my house and demanding things, threatening my son."

"Your goons took something of mine and I want it back. That’s all. We can do this easy. Civilized.”

His smile turns sinister. "Romeo has plans for her, and so do I. Our desires differ… but they will both be sated."

A primal growl rumbles in my chest, my vision tinting red with deadly fury. For a moment, I consider beating him to abloody pulp right here and now. I could probably kill him before his men killed me. But no. I can’t die before finding Elena. Tiberius's suffering can wait. Right now, she's all that matters.

“You’ve just signed your death warrant. Romeo and Giovanni’s too."

He surveys me with a predator's gaze, assessing whether to strike or to bide his time. "Your threats are wind, Niko." He puffs on his cigar and then blows the smoke at me. Then he laughs. “Giovanni should have killed you too.”

“I know you were a part of my brother and mother’s deaths. Giovanni couldn’t do it on his own.”

He shrugs. “Only your brother. I always liked your mom. But Giovanni… well… I don’t think he ever got over her choosing your father over him.”

I scoff, hiding the sickness I feel at the idea of Giovanni ever touching my mother. “We know it wasn’t her choice.”

“Your mother was a sweet woman. The type who knew her place and made those around her to want to make her happy. Your grandfather gave her the choice. Admittedly, he was disappointed as your father was just acapo. I think in the end, he wished he’d forced her to marry Giovanni as Giovanni took everything from him. Your mother’s family is now all dead because of him.”

I wasn’t aware of all this, but now isn’t the time to process it. “You were still a part of it. I’m going to make you pay, but first, you will talk."

He laughs. “I’m getting bored, Boy King.”

I know I’m not going to get anything from him. Staying here and arguing only makes him feel more powerful over me.

“Enjoy that cigar and have a lap dance, Tiberius,” I say, standing up. “Enjoy it now because soon, you’ll be dead.”

I stride out of the bar. I’m just out the door when my phone rings. Donovan.

“Any news?”

“Yeah, Boss. I’ve found Lucia, but Elena isn’t here.”
