Chapter Seven

So far,he hadn’t seen Seraphina at all this week. Maybe it was because Kylie hadn’t shown up for work yet to get in trouble. On Monday, he had thought she just forgot to call in, but by today, he had to call Seraphina and tell her that his secretary was a no-show again. Two days was too many.

Not that he didn’t want to talk to Seraphina; he very much did. But he knew he couldn’t talk to her about what he wanted to talk to her about at work, which was sex, and why she thought she was so good at it. He knew for a fact she wasn’t—well, not for a fact since he had never slept with the woman. But he knew the cold, bitchy type, and they were never good in bed.

There was a sharp rap on his door frame, making him look up at the woman on his mind. In her serious voice, she stated, “Conference room, now.”

Now, if Kylie had been there, she would have announced Seraphina instead of letting her scare him while he was thinking about her and sex. Or maybe not … Kylie wasn’t that good at her job.

Getting up, he followed her, enjoying the look of her ass in the black skirt and long legs that were below it. Had she always been this tall? Most likely.

Seraphina shut the door behind him as he entered. They were alone in the room. Not that they hadn’t spent many battles alone in rooms, but they didn’t usually start out alone. Or maybe they did. They’d had so many fights, the protocol was probably not as strong as he was thinking.

“Sit down. We have to talk.” She wasn’t smiling for the first time in years as she pointed at the table with a blue file in her hand. He had noticed over the years she never used manila ones, always colored ones. But if there was a pattern, he hadn’t figured it out yet.

“Okay, darling.” He teased her, but he really didn’t know why.

“Don’t fuck with me this morning.” Taking the seat across the table, she glared at him.

“Haven’t we already discussed this, Seraphina?” He leaned back in his chair, eyes on her perfect breasts under her white shirt. No heaving. She wasn’t mad yet.

Having her call him into a room for a fight was even better then talking to her about sex. This way, he could think about sex as her breasts heaved, and she lost her cool.

“Be serious, Harrison. Now, have you seen Kylie Nash this week?” she demanded. Couldn’t she have just asked in his office?

He grinned. “No, she hasn’t called in. I was going to call you today.”

“Did you see or speak to her since you sent her home on Friday?” she asked, opening the file and looking in it.

“No, I went on a date on Friday, and you were there. I didn’t do much else this weekend,” he replied, wondering what was happening. He didn’t want to go into detail about what he did on his time off—it wasn’t any of her business. It was also as boring as laundry and sports on TV.

“How long have you known her?” He watched as she wrote down his answers.

“Two or three months.” He sat up straight. Where was she going with these questions?

“Can you be more exact?”

“No, I don’t remember at all. She’s just my personal assistant. You can look in your records.”

“How long have you been sleeping with her?”

“I have never slept with her. She’s twenty, for Christ’s sake.” He finally admitted the truth to her. Her attitude wasn’t improving with his teasing, and his was taking a turn for the worse because of it.

“She claims you’ve been sleeping with her since she started working here and that the baby she’s carrying is yours. She’s filed a paternity case against you and a harassment lawsuit against you and Rodgers and Associates.”

The room lost focus for a moment as her words settled in. He was being sued, and by Kylie Nash of all people, the girl who just last week tried to get into his pants. She had been like that since day one. Some days, he enjoyed the attention, but it had gotten old over the last month.

“I have never slept with her or even tried,” he stated.

“Conference room,” Seraphina said the two words and pointed at the table they were currently sitting at. It had only been last week when that had happened.

“Nothing happened. She tried to get into my pants. I’ve told her I have a girlfriend over and over.” He groaned, now wishing he hadn’t tried to make Sera angry and just said nothing happened then.

“Why would she do this then?”

“I have no idea. She maybe wants to marry me. I don’t fucking know,” he rambled.

“So, the baby isn’t yours?” she asked as she wrote things in her file, her eyes not lifting to his.
