Chapter Twenty-Nine

One nightof sleeping over at Sera’s house had been enough for Harrison. There were too many women in her house. There were females everywhere, and they weren’t quiet. After the group came home from the bar at close to 3 a.m., he hadn’t been able to fall back to sleep, though Sera wasn’t bothered by it at all. She hadn’t even stirred at the voices coming from the hallway just beyond her door. He hadn’t lived in a house that wasn’t silent at night since college. Every little noise woke him up, and there were a lot of little noises.

During the hours that he had spent lying awake with her sleeping in his arms, he had decided he couldn’t live with her here, and she probably wouldn’t want to move her kids into his condo. There wasn’t enough room for two growing kids. He wanted his kids to have a house, just maybe not this one.

As the sun was just starting to lighten the dark night, Sera stealthily slid from his arms. Her movements were slow at first, and he didn’t notice that they were coordinated and not just her moving in her sleep. Letting her go, he watched as she sat up and stretched her naked body before turning back to look at him.

“You’re up,” she whispered when she caught his eyes in the dim light.

“As are you, it’s only five.” He ran a hand down her spine. Her bed was small and cozy compared to his. Not much room.

“Saturday. It’s time for breakfast.” Was her explanation as she kissed him on the lips before going into the bathroom, leaving him alone in the bedroom.

If she was getting up this early on a Saturday to make breakfast for all these girls, she really needed to get a place away from them. Sitting up, he found his underwear and pants on the floor and pulled them on before she came out of the bathroom. She was dressed in loose lounge pants and a yellow T-shirt.

“You can keep sleeping.”

“I’ll help you,” he offered, looking for his shirt.

“No help needed, Harrison. It’s early.”

“I’ve been up for hours since the bar crew came home.”

“Sorry they woke you. Sometimes they can be loud. They try not to be. I’ll talk to them.”

“Sera, wait. I need my shirt, and I’ll come with you.”

At his words Sera, stopped and turned at the open door, then leaned against the frame as she watched him. What she was thinking, he had no idea, and she didn’t say, just watched him as he looked around the room for his clothes.

There was more light in the hallway, and it illuminated her form. The hint of the curves he knew were there was enough to make him bring her back into the room and explore them again.

As he got up to do just that, his hand landed on his shirt. At the shift, he saw the expression on her face, and it said he would not be getting her back in bed right then. Pushing off the thought, he held up his shirt. “Found it. We can go now.”

“Harrison.” She stepped back into the room and closed the door, leaving them in darkness again.

“What?” he asked, her tone had him sitting back on the bed. Was he in trouble? Why?

She walked over to him and put her hands on his shoulders, “Breakfast is sort of a girls-only event. Always has been. It’s a way for everyone to get together at least once a week and catch up.”

“Sera, you all live together. How much catching up is there?” Not to mention the fact that she had seen all of them last night and spent time with them. How much more time did she need?

“Yes, we all live together, but we don’t always see each other. Agatha works at night, and Maby and I work during the day. Harper works basically from the middle of the night to late evening with time off between. Lucy works midday to the middle of the night. Buzz works any hours she can. Weekend mornings are our time.”

“You just saw them all last night,” he reminded her and pulled her into his arms.

“Fluke. We don’t usually get that.” She tried for a second to push from his grasp, then stopped and let it happen.

“Can I stay?” he whispered into her ear.

“Uhm, no boys allowed, Harrison.” She ran her hand up his check.

“How about I help you until someone wakes up?” he asked because he wanted to spend as much time with her as he could. It had been a long few days without her near him. They needed to make up that time.

“Help?” Her voice was incredulous, as if he couldn’t help her in the kitchen.

“Help you make breakfast. I can make the bacon while you make the eggs.” He kissed her neck. “I can make the sausage while you make the pancakes.”

“Why are you making all the meat?” Sera giggled as she tilted her head so his lips could find more places to touch. “Besides, I don’t make breakfast,”
