Planning her lecture, she opened the door and slid into the passenger seat, then looked at Agatha, who hadn’t left the front porch yet. In fact, she had sat down on the top step and was waving at her.

“What the …?” She started to get out of the truck when a hand on her arm stopped her.

“Shut the door, Seraphina. We’re going for a drive,” Harrison said, causing Sera to actually follow his request.

“What are you doing here, Harrison? We were not supposed to see each other before the wedding! It’s bad luck.” And more importantly, it wasn’t on the agenda.

“Relax. I just have something I want to do before we get married and start our lives together.” The streetlights were turning off as he pulled up in front of Rodgers and Associates, in the parking lot she always parked in. Now he either parked next to her, or they drove together.

“Work? You are taking me to work?” He took her hand as they walked into the quiet building.

In the three months since Harrison’s investigation, things had improved for her. Three of the partners had retired in the wake of the new rules that Sera had created, Keith being the first of them. Two had also been forced to resign because they hadn’t thought that the new rules applied to them. At least they had done so before a complaint could actually be filed, but just barely.

As far as she knew, Kylie was still in town, but she hadn’t heard anything about her. Nobody had, as far as she or Harrison knew, though it would have been nice to talk to her about Josh Rolf or even talk to the man himself. Not that Harrison wanted a relationship with his half-brother or anyone from that side of his family. Just some understanding of why he was set up would be nice.

Looking back on all she knew about Kylie, Sera worried about her a little. Maybe it was because of how close she had come to being like her, to being desperate and unable to rise above the bottom.

“Yes, because I have something that we need to do before today.” As the elevator took them to their floor, his body hovered so close to her that she could barely breath. After all these months together, he could still make her breath stop just by being near her. If they weren’t in the building that they both worked in, she would demand he kiss her. Touch her. Do it all at once.

Once the doors were open, he backed away from her and slowly led her toward the conference room. The building was empty and eerily silent as they walked. Him walking backwards, and her fallowing. Him silent and her unable to be silent any longer.

“Why are we here, Harrison? Have you rethought a prenup? I thought you didn’t want one? I was all ready to sign last month, but now I think I am a ‘no’ on that. I’m not going to let you divorce me, so why be afraid of it?”

“I told you, my money is your money, and your kids are my kids. Even trade.”

“So, you bought my kids?” she said with a grin, just like the last time he said it.

“Yes, every one of them.” He held up eight fingers because he was always teasing her about how he couldn’t keep them straight or remember how many there were.

“I haven’t thought about how much per child you paid. I think you underpaid. They are worth a ton, so you might need to take out a loan.” She giggled at his frown. “A big one.”

“Quit arguing with me. Why is it that when we are in this building, you are always arguing with me?”

“Because you think you’re better than me when we’re here. I need to remind you that you are not.” It wasn’t exactly true. She just loved arguing with him, and at work, he couldn’t win by taking a shortcut and getting her naked.

“That’s not how I feel.” He tugged her into the conference room down the hallway from their offices.

“Good. At least you are changing.”

“Maybe a little.”

“Where do I sign?” She looked around the conference room. Now that the lights were on, she saw that the table was completely clear and there were no papers on it.

“There isn’t a prenup for you to sign.” He pulled out the closest chair and rolled it away from the table.

“Why are we here then?” She frowned at the room; it looked the exact same as it always did. Though since the meeting about his conduct had taken place in here, they hadn’t both been in here at the same time. She wondered if she should be nervous until she looked into his face.

“Because, Seraphina Lovely”—he lifted her onto the table—“you once accused me of having sex in this very conference room. Since that day, I have thought of nothing but having sex with you in here.”

“You want to have sex in here?” She looked around skeptically. Sure, she had thought about it before. But acting on it?

“Yes, with you, before either of us are married again.” He slipped his hands under her shirt and unhooked her bra.

“Uhm, I’m not exactly comfortable with this.” She said the words but let him slip her shirt and bra off her body anyway. The thrill sent shivers up her spine, and it wasn’t just because Harrison was there.

“Yes, you are.” His hands were busy with her pants as he kissed her neck.

Letting him do the work, she smiled and grabbed at his shirt, pulling him to her. “I am. I so am.”

Her laughter filled the silent room until it turned to moans from both of them. It broke so many of her rules, but worth it—it had been a fantasy of hers, too.

She finally had someone who understood her completely. Someone who knew her inside and out. Someone who was her one true love. Harrison Dean.

The End
