“I don’t know. Maybe you could ask her,” Louisa suggested.
“I did, but she didn’t say.”
“Just try and forgive her. You liked her and you were pretty happy when she was around.”
“It was just sex.”
“I’m young, Jonas, but not stupid.” She tapped his leg and left the room, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
Closing his eyes, he tried not to picture her unable to talk, to explain what she had been doing there.
A scream snapped him out of his mind and had him running to his sister—there was nobody else in the house that had that scream. He found her in the hallway, staring into the room Brett and Ross were sharing. Louisa’s face was completely white.
George had come running from the other direction and was now looking in the room as well. All eyes were glued to the scene before them: Judith was sandwiched between the two young men, and all three were almost completely naked. As much as he wanted to, it wasn’t a sight that Jonas was ever going to forget.
Judith’s face was pale as she was caught by her husband, stepson, and daughter in the middle of a threesome with two men well under half her age. Jonas grabbed Louisa and pulled her away from the door and back towards his room, which was across from her own.
Pushing her into her room, he told her to stay, noticing that her face was pale, and her eyes were huge. The shock he was feeling was even worse for his sister. She had the hots for one of those men in the room that her mother was screwing.
Down the hallway, he could hear his father’s voice. Maybe this time, the divorce would take. George seeing what his wife was up to was maybe what the older man needed.
“Is this why you wanted him here? Because he was your lover?!” George bellowed.
“I can explain,” Judith argued as she was pulling on her clothes, the boys behind her doing the same.
George turned his back on her and continued, “Explain to my lawyer, Judith. You two young men will be leaving as soon as you get clothes on. And you also, Judith. And don’t bother taking Louisa; she’s staying with me.”
“You can’t keep my daughter from me!” Judith argued, but there was no strength in her words. This time, she had done something unforgiving in George’s eyes, and she knew it.
“I can and I will. If she wants to contact you, that is up to her, but she will not be living with you. You can go back to Chicago and keep the house. I’m already giving you enough money to live on, but this is over,” George stated.
“George, really?” Judith begged.
“Get out of my house,” George hissed.
Judith stepped out of the room and into the hallway, completely dressed again, which was the only thing that made Jonas happy. “Louisa, pack a bag. We’re leaving,” she said, ignoring her husband’s words.
George turned to her, yelling, “I said no! She will stay here.”
Judith glared at George and replied, “Fine, I didn’t want her anyway. You were the one who always wanted her. I was tired of kids, but you wanted to have another. Well, now you have her.”
“Yes, I do.” George didn’t seem bothered by what the woman had said about her own daughter.
Behind him, he heard a gasp; Louisa had heard it all. Her hand was covering her mouth, and there were giant tears in her eyes, which made her look seven again.
“Louisa.” Jonas reached for her to give her a hug, but she sidestepped and ran past him into the hallway.
Her parents saw her, but neither moved as she rushed past them towards the stairs, then down them until she was gone. Growling at the couple, he rushed after her. Neither of them saw that the kid was falling apart or that their words had hurt her so badly.
Jonas searched outside, but he couldn’t find her. Back inside, he searched the house, then went back outside and looked again. Ross and Brett both left with their suitcases within minutes. Judith took closer to an hour, but she was quick to leave as well. Louisa had left with nothing and hadn’t returned yet when the sun had set.
The only way he stopped worrying was when she sent him a text that she was okay, just two letters that didn’t seem like enough.
