“I will text her, but as far as I know, nothing she usually makes has nuts in it. She avoids them because of allergy issues,” Lucy explained, showing him how much she knew about her sister’s business.

He changed the subject. “So, tell me about ‘80s country music. Why do you like it so much?”

“Mom loves it, so we always had to listen to it. When she moved in, the main TV downstairs was broken. Someone threw someone else into it, and the TV lost. So, it was Mom’s tape collection or the radio. Soon, Mom’s tapes won out, and we scoured garage sales in the summer for more.” She ate a few more bites.

“And Reba McEntire is the one who gets you on stage?” he teased.

She waved off the comment. “I was holding back. I didn’t want you to see how crazy it gets.”

“I’m starting to get used to it. The epic battle taking place when I got home was fun. I think it was because you weren’t involved.”

“I can hold my own with any one of them. Sometimes two at a time, unless one is Agatha. Don’t take on her unless you know she’s drunk.” Lucy laughed.

“I’ll remember that,” he assured her.

“So why did you quit the band? Were you kicked out because of your bossiness?” She took another small bite of potatoes.

“No, it broke up because the drummer OD’d. I realized I couldn’t do it anymore without Alex, so I quit. Without us, there wasn’t much of the band left. I started working for my dad soon after that.” He shrugged. There was more to it than that, but he didn’t want to talk about it.

“I’m sorry, Leo. Losing someone is hard.” Lucy took his hand in hers.

“It is, but it made me grow up. Okay, Lucy, how close are you and Cliff?” He needed to change the subject and couldn’t get it out of his head that they were in the same room in the morning.

“He was my best friend, then Mabel stole him.”

“So, your sister is married to your ex?”

Lucy shook her head. “No, we never slept together. Okay, we slept together, but never had sex.”

“That is not possible,” he argued.

Her eyebrow went up. “I have slept with you, and we haven’t had sex. Though I don’t even know if I kissed Cliff. If I did, they weren’t real kisses.”

“And you weren’t jealous of Mabel?”

“No, I am happy for her! Though I wish I knew he was rich when we were friends—I could have used less check-splitting,” she mumbled.

Leo suppressed a laugh, but was relieved that she didn’t seem angry or jealous of her sister. “He seems happy with your clone.”

“We don’t even look alike.” She grinned. “I’ve never seen him so happy. So happy to be settled down and with one woman. I was worried when they came back and started dating.”

“Came back?”

“Oh, Maby pretended to be me and went on vacation with him. He found out and tried to teach her a lesson but ended up falling for her.

“That happened?! He said Maby could mimic you, but that well? Can you mimic her?”

“Not as well,” was all she said. “Not for over a day, but I don’t try much.”

“Well, I hope you don’t have to.” He grinned at her.

“I’m going to watch TV. You can finish eating.” She waved her hand over the plates, hers was missing just the potatoes.

“Okay.” He let her go; he couldn’t force her to eat. It seemed she didn’t want to eat what her sister made. Harper had hurt her too much for that.
