Pam whipped around and looked at him. “Three? What the fuck! You said this is your first kid.” She ran her hands over her bump again.

“Maybe first this year,” Lucy stated. “He has five other kids, Pam, and I wouldn’t expect him to be there for you or the baby ever. No money either.”

“No, no, he promised we will be together forever. We’re a family now,” Pam told Lucy in a condescending tone.

“He was dating me when he knocked you up,” Lucy reminded her.

“You’re one to talk, Lucy. You were screwing your boss when we were together. Not to mention going on vacation with Cliff.” Kevin decided he needed to say something, which was a mistake.

“You mean when you went with Beth? Where was Pam those days?” Lucy asked.

“When were you on vacation with Beth? You know I can’t stand Beth.” Pam seethed, turning on him.

Kevin tried to talk himself out of it. “Babe, it was a cheap vacation, and tickets were already paid for when we started dating.”

“So, you were dating Lucy, Beth, and that young chick that was at the bar with you last month? When did you even have time to date Pam?” Harper asked.

“Aubrey, her name was Aubrey,” Lucy provided.

“Lucy was cheating on me too!” That seemed to be his only defense, which was not going over well with Pam based on her expression of disgust.

“She only slept with him because you had such a small dick. She needed to feel something.” Harper pointed at Kevin’s crotch.

“That is not true!” Kevin stated, then looked around the room at everyone looking at them and announced, “I have a very large dick.”

“Prove it,” Harper stated. “Pull it out. I will admit I am wrong if there is proof.”

Kevin had unbuttoned his pants before Pam stopped him with a look. It seemed she didn’t need everyone seeing her baby daddy naked. Lucy was sure that there would be a lot of women who still would because Kevin was not changing for her, or for anyone.

Before he could get the button done back up, Pam’s name was called, and he silently followed her to the back door and vanished. He didn’t even look back at her as he went.

Harper leaned over to her and whispered, “So glad those two are not his. Leo is so much better than him. What did you even see in him?”

Shrugging, she wished she knew. Low self-esteem and willing to put up with a lot of garbage? Now she saw the error in her ways.

Despite her words, Lucy was aware that Harper knew exactly who the babies’ daddy was. She had probably always known and was happy to go along with the lie. She still was, for that matter, and would forever.

Finally unable to control herself, she got up and started pacing around the room. It didn’t stop the nervousness, but it gave her something to do. Most moms-to-be were on their phones, something Lucy couldn’t do much of. For a moment she wished the waiting room had a window, something for her to look at.

Back and forth she paced, and Harper soon gave up her chair to a woman who had just arrived. Her sister leaned against the wall and watched her, and Lucy knew she was worried. Lucy’s entire family was worried about her. The nervous energy she had always had was worse the longer she was at home with nothing to do and because Leo was gone from her life.

Tomorrow would have been their first month anniversary if they had gotten married the day they had planned. But instead, it was the three-week anniversary of when she lost him and the entire world she was creating.

His face when he accused her of trying to kill Amelia still brought tears to her eyes. It still caused her breath to stop, and her body would start to shake. Biting her lip, she tried to make it stop, but the panic washed over her like it was happening all over again.

“Lucy? Are you okay?” She could hear Harper’s voice, but she was back in Leo’s dining room. This time she was alone with Amelia, and this time nobody could save her from Lucy.

Breathing was impossible, and sheer darkness engulfed her.
