Instead of Byte answering me, a voice from the speakerphone spoke up. “Lemon’s been kidnapped.”

That was Thorn’s voice. President of Salvation’s Bane. We had a loose alliance with their club, but we weren’t exactly friends. More like we agreed to stay out of each other’s way and to help each other out if things got too out of hand. Looks like they were. Had Thorn punched me in the balls, he couldn’t have dealt a more debilitating blow.

“What?” I barked the question. “You better be fuckin’ with me, Thorn. Then you better take your ass beatin’ like a fuckin’ man.”

“I wish like fuck I was, Rocket. Venus was on her way to Tito’s when it went down. She thinks they were looking for her.”

“Lemon looks nothing like Venus. Not to mention all the pink.” Then a thought occurred to me. “The bike,” I whispered, glancing over at Crush. His expression was hard but resigned. “That Goddamned bike.”

“Yeah. She was riding Falcon’s bike.” Ringo stuck his head inside the room. “You think they thought Lemon was Venus?”

“That’s exactly what Ripper thought.” Thorn continued. “When Venus contacted us, Ripper started pulling camera feeds all over the city. Those guys are good. They know what they’re doing and how to stay off the cameras. Venus is on ‘em, though. She’ll keep on your girl, Rocket. Venus is deadly as any of us.”

Ringo snorted. “That’s not what I heard.”

I gave him an exasperated look. “Run along, little boy. The grown-ups are having a conversation.”

Ringo barked out a laugh. “The little hellion’s rubbin’ off on you, Prez. You sound just like her.”

“I must not have beat you hard enough before.” Even though the man sported a still swollen-shut black eye, he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

“You beat me plenty, Rocket, but I’m bettin’ you no one’s considered Lemon’s sharp tongue and how it’s gonna affect her kidnappers. Because that woman could try the patience of a saint. I say that with the utmost affection, Rocket. But you know it’s true.”

Yeah. My little sourpuss could rip a man to shreds without batting an eyelash. “I hear you, Ringo.” I turned my attention back to the phone and Thorn. “Where’s Lemon?”

“Venus is following them. Ripper has a GPS on everyone’s bike, so he’s following her. She’s also got an open phone connection with Ripper, giving him real-time information. They’re headed to the reserve. Your direction. They know you guys are there?”

“No,” I said without hesitation. “We all take great pains to protect our area out here. I’m not saying no one knows where we are, but in this case, I’d be willing to bet my life they’re looking for a place to hole up and think the nature reserve is the perfect place because no one is allowed in here.”

There was a slight pause, then Thorn spoke again. “I agree. I’m assumin’ you have places to get rid of the motherfuckers.”

“Plenty of gators out there. We cut ‘em up in small enough pieces, even if someone did find ‘em they wouldn’t know what they’d found.” I moved across the room. The main weapons locker for the club was in Crush and Byte’s office. I entered the code for the locker and chose a SIG-Sauer and a couple of clips. “Get a team together, Crush. You get all the information Ripper has. I want to know exactly where those motherfuckers are.”

“Roger that,” Crush’s fingers flew over the keyboard as I snagged another gun. Ringo was right beside me, packing up his own weapons.

“What’er you doin’?” I raised an eyebrow at him. Ringo wasn’t exactly who I thought would want to help me rescue Lemon. Not considering how the two of them clashed.

“Goin’ after my VP.” He leveled his one-eye-gaze on me. “Got a problem with that, Prez?”

“Nope. Just don’t accidentally shoot her.”

“Hey. She gets on my ever-lovin’ last nerve, Rocket. She’s a pain in the ass on the best of days. She seems to get a kick outta bustin’ everyone’s balls. But she’s the VP of Grim Road. We all voted her in. Unanimously. I might want to throttle her sometimes, but no one else better touch one hair on her head.”

I snorted. “You better not either.”

“I have no desire to get my ass handed to me again, Prez.”

“Good. Crush, tell the team they’ve got five minutes to gear up, then I’m leavin’. I’m gonna find these bastards. We’re gonna make what happened to Hammer look like a fuckin’ picnic.”

Chapter Six

Lemon

“Get up, bitch.” The guy was dancing all over my last fucking nerve, but there wasn’t a Goddamned thing I could do about it.

“Go fuck yourself.” My mouth hadn’t caught up with the pain in my body yet. Too bad, too, because I really wasn’t sure how many more beatings I could take. Just like all the other times since I’d been taken a few hours ago, I got backhanded. Pain exploded across my cheek, and I sucked in a breath. When this had started, and I realized I was on my own until Rocket and Grim Road found me, I’d made a promise to myself that, no matter what they did, I would not give them the satisfaction of hearing me scream or seeing me cry. So far, all they’d done was hit me or kick me. I was pretty sure things wouldn’t stay that way long. If Rocket didn’t find me soon, I was going to be in some serious fucking trouble. Hell, I was already in serious fucking trouble.

“When I tell you to do something, you do it, bitch.” The guy grabbed me by my hair and dragged me across the short length of the tiny hunting shack. I had no idea who owned the property, but I was fairly certain we were close to Grim Road’s territory. The place was pretty well hidden. Unless there were cameras or sensors in the immediate vicinity, I doubted anyone could find the place.
