"Agreed," Dario nods, his eyes darkening with determination. "We'll have to be cautious, though. If we act too hastily, we might only alert the traitor to our suspicions."

I like how he says we, like we’re a team, when in fact, the warnings are for him. If we says we any more, I might just melt into a puddle at his feet. I try to turn things back on him, to get him to stop including me in things I shouldn’t be involved in.

“Right,” I whisper. “You should get your men on it.”

“I will,” he mutters, looking away, confused.

“What is it?” I ask.

“What if the ghost is still trying to set us up? Somewhere at the back of my mind, it’s too good to be true. An anonymous figure, just looking out for us? That doesn’t seem right, does it?”

As we sit in the dimly lit room, going over our plans, I can't help but think about how the Ghost's information matches up with Elena's message. It's unnerving, to say the least. The more I learn about this mysterious informant, the more I have come to trust their intel. But trusting someone who remains unknown is risky and potentially dangerous. Despite that, I can't deny the eerie accuracy of their predictions.

"Jasmine?" Dario interrupts my thoughts, his eyebrows furrowing in concern.

"Sorry," I respond, shaking my head slightly. "I was just thinking about the Ghost's warnings...and how it aligns with what’s happened so far. He would be a fool to warn you and hold out his warnings to that accuracy. He’s not trying to play smart, I think he’s truly trying to help.”

The way Dario’s brows furrow tells me he thinks otherwise. Nevertheless, I let it go. For now, there’s a lot for him to process.

"I know it's strange,” he says at last, “but we have no choice but to trust them for now.”

“I agree,” I sigh with relief, glad to see that he’s leaning towards the right decision.

Suddenly, I catch a glimpse of movement in the corner of my eye - a shadowy figure standing on the balcony just outside the window. My heart leaps into my throat, and adrenaline courses through my veins as I try to remain calm.

"Wait," I whisper urgently, my eyes locked onto the silhouette. "There's someone out there."

Dario follows my gaze, his body tensing as he registers the presence of the figure. The figure swathed in darkness is impossible to discern, nothing more than a vague silhouette that sends shivers down my spine.

I can't tell if they're friend or foe, their intentions unknown and creating a sense of tension and uncertainty that gnaws at me. My mind races with possibilities, each more unnerving than the last.

"Stay here," he orders, his voice low and controlled. But I'm not the type to sit back and let someone else handle the situation; I'm a part of this dangerous game just as much as he is.

"Absolutely not," I say firmly, rising from my seat and walking towards the window. "We're in this together."

Dario hesitates, but gives me a nod, acknowledging that we are indeed facing this threat as a team. We approach the balcony side by side, our hearts pounding in unison as we prepare to confront whatever awaits us on the other side.

"Ready?" Dario's voice breaks through my thoughts, his hand resting on the balcony door handle.

"Ready," I respond, hoping my voice doesn't betray the unease I feel.

Dario throws open the door, and we step out onto the balcony together. The cool night air brushes against my skin as I scan the area for any sign of the figure, but they seem to have disappeared into the shadows.

"Where did they go?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

"I don't know," Dario replies, his eyes still searching the darkness. "But we need to be cautious."

"Maybe it was just a trick," I suggest, trying to convince myself more than him. "A ploy to get us out here, vulnerable."

Dario shakes his head, the seriousness in his eyes unwavering. “Or maybe it’s the ghost. Telling us he’s watching over us but means no harm.”

A shiver goes down my spine, but this time, one of excitement. Tonight, we begin to share camaraderie with a man or woman whose name and face we don’t know and that in itself, is a riveting proposition.
