She shot him the finger and hopped out of Chad’s arms. “Me and Ari got the fever. Axton was happy to go along with our plans. All y’all fucking around, tripling the population. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Plus, Ariana is old enough to help me. Now, shut up, Shy.”

She made her way to Axton’s arms as she stuck her tongue out at Shy. I sat in my seat as I chuckled. Her ass was spoiled rotten, just like Fawn’s ass. I knew they’d met before, but if they ever got close, there was no way I would be able to be around them when they were together. Fawn thought she was still my boss, and Alexz thought she was everybody’s boss.

I stood and went to throw my plate away, nearly running into Jungle. “Nigga, why the fuck you in my way?” I asked him.

He chuckled. “Shut the fuck up. I need yo’ help though.”

“With what?”

Before he could say, Zamir ran up on me, swinging like he was in a boxing match. I should have never taught that lil nigga how to do that. I picked him up, pinning his arms to his body as he fought against me. “You wanna talk about how bad he is, but you part of the problem, nigga.”

I smirked at him as he said, “Remember when I gave you the leftover shit from the barbershop a couple of years ago?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“Did you sell all of it?”

“Naw. I gave half to Travis.”

He nodded repeatedly. “He’s started his own crew, and niggas were saying it was our product. He probably knew that we changed the formula and using that shit.”

“Probably. You need me to check into it?”

“Yeah. Make sure that nigga ain’t running his shit in our name, making it seem like he still working for us. I didn’t get out the game just to be sucked back in for a nigga tryna make a quick come up.”

“I feel you. I got it.”

Travis was third in command, so we trusted his ass. I hoped he wasn’t doing what Jungle suspected, because he would be good as gone.

“Did Yunique say what she wanted to talk about?” my mama asked.

“Just stuff she’s been talking to her therapist about. She said it would help us understand her better. Honestly, I wonder if her therapist even told her to share this with us. You think it might be something that could traumatize us as well?” I asked my mama.

“Well, if it’s something that happened on my watch, I would like to know. I don’t know if she really needs to tell you and Sasha what’s going on.”

I took a deep breath. Yunique was supposed to be calling us today, and I was nervous as hell. I got to my mama’s house about thirty minutes ago, because she’d cooked lunch for us. We used to love when she cooked spaghetti and meatballs as kids. She cooked it today, and Sasha and I were in hog heaven. My nephew was loving it as much as we did.

It was one of my memories of my dad that stuck with me. He loved spaghetti too. We wanted to be a part of whatever he loved. We loved and looked up to him… all three of us. When Mama’s phone rang, we all tensed up and sat on the couch together. Sasha grabbed my hand, and she seemed to be just as nervous as I was.

Her hand was clammy and trembling. Leaning over, she said, “Whatever it is, we’re going to have to get through it together, because I don’t have a good feeling about this.”

“Neither do I,” I responded.

When Mama put the phone on speaker, I said somewhat softly, “Hey, Yunique.”

“Hey, Keke. Hey, Sasha.”

“Hey,” Sasha said, the tremble very noticeable in her voice.

“I can hear how nervous all of you are, so I should probably just get to it. I love y’all, and that’s why I’ve been going to a therapist. I want to be able to have a close relationship with all of you again, especially you, Karen. What I witnessed wasn’t your fault. My therapist helped me see that it had nothing to do with thug niggas. It could have happened in a regular ass family.”

Her intro to what her issues were did nothing for my nerves. Mama was nervous too. “I love you too, Nique.”

“Yeah, we love you too,” Sasha said.
