I glanced at Jungle to see him slide his hand over his chin. “Yo, you good?” I asked him.

“Yeah. I just have a lot on my mind.”

I frowned. Jungle and I talked about mostly everything, so I wasn’t sure what was going on. I knew he had me looking into Travis, but I didn’t see anything unusual the past couple of weeks. Maybe he just didn’t want to say anything in front of the guys, but I didn’t understand why. We could usually talk freely in front of everybody in the room.

“A’ight. We got the message. I’ll be on his ass tomorrow; Jericho, you got Tuesday; Seneca, Wednesday; Rondo, Thursday; Chad, Friday; and Shy or Jungle, y’all can do Saturday.”

“I got Saturday since I live in Houston,” Jungle said.

“I’ll do Sunday,” I said.

Being here for Sunday dinner was more important for them than me. I honestly didn’t care one way or the other. If I couldn’t make it, then it was no big deal. I knew that could possibly change if Keondra got close to the ladies. She seemed to already be getting along well with them, especially Alexz.

“Okay. I’m gonna watch him tomorrow; that way I can adjust shifts from there. If he don’t start moving until ten, then there would be no sense in anyone getting there for eight.”

“Oh, and I might can get his phone tapped if you can tell me what company it’s through,” I added.

“Okay. I’ll have that shit for you tonight or tomorrow,” Ali said. “So does this mean you will be officially Watchful Eyes now?”

I gave him a one-sided smile. “Yeah. Put me on the list of employees.”

He chuckled then extended his hand. I slapped it then did so to everyone in attendance. “I appreciate y’all help on this. Ali, invoice me, please.”

He dismissed me with a wave of his hand. I slowly shook my head. I knew he would do that because I never asked to be paid for anything I did for Watchful Eyes, like when I caught Jericho’s bitch ass brother. To say that nigga was acting so hard at Pilar’s, he was singing a different tune until I knocked his ass out. He was begging for his life.

I believed he just wanted Jericho to think he was more dangerous than he actually was. Maybe he was running game on me so I wouldn’t kill him. I would have had Jericho not said he wanted to do it. Jules couldn’t have done his research to see who Jericho was around, because he would have known to steer clear of areas of Houston we frequented.

He was out there naked… no backup. It was almost like he wanted to be caught in a way. Knowing he did all the shit he did to Chelsea, I wanted to shoot him in his head. I knew Jungle probably would have.

When we left the room we were in at Rondo’s house, I asked Jungle, “This about Travis?”

“Yeah.”

I followed him outside but not before winking at Keondra. She smiled as she talked to Mrs. Anissa. She had me doing all kinds of shit I didn’t normally do. They would probably be leaving in a few minutes for their class. She was excited about that ever since Fawn gassed Sandrene up at the brunch spot two weeks ago.

“I got word from Jeremy that Travis sold some of that shit in my name yesterday. He was trying to do it on his own, but niggas wasn’t trusting his product. Jeremy was with him when he said the Patterson organization yesterday to sell his stash. Nigga gon’ mess around and get fucked up.”

“He deserves it. Friendship aside, you don’t do no shit like that. You want me to get at him when we get back?”

“We both will. You don’t need to take all the risk.”

“Again, you have three kids and another on the way, along with a wife. I got it.”

“Jungle!”

I chuckled as Jericka ran up on him. She had been with Kaysyn and Seneca this weekend, so she was excited to see him. He hugged her tightly. “Hey, baby girl. How was your weekend with the family?”

“It was good! I missed you and Mom.”

“We missed you too, baby.”

She kissed his cheek and took off, and he slowly shook his head. “I can’t lose them, man. If I end up in prison or dead, it will kill Chelsea.”

“That’s what’s really got you bothered. That’s why you gotta let me handle this shit. I ain’t got shit really going for myself… not like you do. I know I fuck wit’chu a lot about how you act when Chelsea is around, but honestly, I admire that. The way you completely flip the script when she’s around is something to see. I can tell it’s not pretentious. I didn’t know I wanted that, too, until I met Keondra.”

“I appreciate you, brother, but I ain’t tryna have you going down on my watch either. We in this together. I want you to feel love like I feel it. For that to happen, you have to be around.”

He put his arm around my shoulders, and it reminded me of when we were kids. When Mrs. Elaine died, it took a toll on him, but I knew I had to be strong for him. I would hug him this way all the time. Although I was a couple of years younger than him, it was like we were the same age. His relationship with me was different from his relationship with his brother, Mega.
