“Baby, I would have never guessed Vegas could be so tender. We rarely had conversations, but the nigga always had a frown on his face. Intimidating as fuck. When is the wedding again?”

“Girl, don’t play with me. You know you and Fawn will be in the wedding if no one else is. Y’all better have your plane tickets too.”

She giggled. Joel had let me decide on everything for our wedding and said to just tell him when to show up. We were doing a destination wedding. Hawaii was a place I always wanted to visit. The wedding was in three months, and I couldn’t wait to take his name as my own.

When I saw Joel stand and head my way, I smiled. He handed Brielle to me. “I’m gonna go smoke, and I don’t want my princess inhaling that shit. I’ll take a shower before we leave.”

I frowned. “Take a shower?”

“Yeah. That smoke gon’ get in my clothes and hair and shit. I can’t have my baby inhaling that shit all the way back to H-Tine.”

“Well, damn, nigga. You protective as hell,” Alexz said. “That’s a good thing.”

He winked at her as Joel’s brother Daniel yelled, “Alexz, come on here, woman!”

He was Alpha Phi Alpha, along with his dad, and their sister, Giselle, was an AKA like Alexz and Skylar. Joel’s mom was a poodle, so Kaysyn was more than happy to have company since she was the only one. Joel’s entire family had been at our house for the past week and had come to Beaumont with us to turn up with the Berottes. They were about to do their stroll or whatever. “Duty calls!” Alexz said then ran to where they were.

Joel slid his hand across my cheek. “I love you so much, baby. I can’t wait to make you my wife finally.”

“I can’t wait either. It looks like we’re the last ones to tie the knot around here.”

He smiled. “God saved the best for last.”

“Mm. He sure did.”

He kissed my lips and walked away to go smoke with Jungle and Ali. I watched Seneca give their baby girl to Kaysyn so he could join them as well. It was clear he didn’t want to part with her, just like Joel didn’t want to part with Brielle. These men were attached to their daughters. I couldn’t be more grateful for the man Joel had become.

The way he loved on Brielle and me was something I only read about in the romances I narrated for. Joel would constantly shake his head saying it was sad how we had him wrapped around our fingers. However, I had to let him know that no matter how sensitive he was with the two of us, he would always be my gangsta.

The End
