“Okay, let’s get this guy back in the water.” He helped her lower the fish gently overboard into the water, and they watched it dart off.
“That was so cool!” Jade beamed.
“Excellent catch, baby!” Ryker grinned and high-fived her.
They rinsed off the fish slime and spent the rest of the day on the lake. They also caught some bass for dinner that night, which Ryker cleaned and grilled for them, but Jade’s muskie was by far the biggest catch of the day. She was so proud.
If she could stay on this mountain with Ryker forever, she would.
He was an entirely different person out here, much more relaxed and carefree. He still carried his gun anywhere they went, but she felt like she was finally seeing the real “off-duty” man behind the uniform. And that guy was a blast.
Over the past few days, he’d taught her how to shoot his gun, plus they’d hiked, swam, fished, and geocached in addition to their regular kick-boxing routine. Some (okay, most) of those activities may have ended with missing clothing. They’d made love, they’d fucked, and they’d worshipped each other thoroughly at every opportunity.
Jade knew multiple orgasms in one night were possible — she’d even had a few herself before Ryker — but Ryker knew exactly how to coax them out of her. He turned the myth into reality. She’d never had so many back-to-back O’s with anyone else.
But even excluding the naughty perks of their excursions, Jade was having a great time.
The rural experience was all new for her. She grew up in the suburbs and had never visited the country much — but she’d loved every minute of being with Ryker in the boonies. He made everything fun and took the time to explain any questions she had without making her feel silly about asking.
She’d even started winning the friendship of a wild chipmunk. Around the same time each day, he would come by to take peanuts she left for him. She dubbed him “Chester,” and was determined to get him to take a peanut from her hand before their vacation ended.
She felt at home there with Ryker. She was relaxed and having fun. Plus, there was the added bonus that Ryker was a fantastic snuggler. And the fact that he always protected her — either consciously or subconsciously she wasn’t sure — by positioning himself between her and the door when they were sleeping or when they were lounging in the house, melted her heart.
After they cleaned up from dinner on the patio, Ryker came outside carrying a blanket, and extended his hand to her.
“Come on, I have something to show you,” he said.
“Another surprise?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm... Let me guess. Is it your dick?”
He barked out a laugh. “Well, my dick wasn’t the original surprise, but I can definitely make it the surprise if you want. I’m sure I can find a box to wrap it in somewhere.”
Jade laughed. “I love that song!” She hummed and sang the chorus to Lonely Island’s “Dick in a Box.”
Ryker chuckled. “Why am I not surprised?”
“Four big brothers, remember? Of course I know that song. They thought it was hilarious. I did, too, honestly. Plus, Justin Timberlake used to be my dream man! When I was a tween, but still.”
He laughed and kissed her. “In that case, I’m glad your taste changed since I’m pretty much the opposite. Come on. We’ve gotta go or we’re going to miss it.”
He tugged her hand and led her through the trees. It was still daylight but would get dark soon.
They walked up a well-worn path toward the lake and emerged from the forest onto a sandy shore. The view was gorgeous. The lake seemed to go on forever before them, with hills and mountains framing it. The sun sank in the distance.
“It’s so beautiful out here,” she said.
“It gets better. Just wait.”
Ryker spread the blanket on the sand and sat down. He pulled his gun from the back of his shorts and laid it safely to the side.
She sat on his lap, making herself cozy.
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead.
“This whole place — the cabin, the lake, the forest, everything — is wonderful,” she said, resting her head against his chest. “You picked the perfect spot. Thank you for sharing it with me.”
