The message showed receipt, then three little dots appeared on the screen where Ryker started typing. But then they stopped. She waited a minute but no message came through.

“Are you seriously sexting right now?” Bex asked.

“Tryin’ to.” Jade stuck her tongue out at Bex without looking up.

“Mr. Blue Eyes not responding, huh?”

“Not at the moment. But he could be kicking some ninja ass right now for all I know, so I’ll give him a pass.”

Jade texted “Miss you, my ninja warrior ??” then locked her phone screen and shoved it back in her pocket. Ryker would definitely raise an eyebrow at that and ask her about it later, but hey, at least then they would be talking then.

Bex laughed. “I’ve got to go to the bathroom. Anyone need anything while I’m out there?”

Polly said, “Let me go with you. I need some coffee.

“Ooooh coffee sounds great. I’m going, too,” Maggie said, bouncing on her feet.

“I’m not sure you need coffee... I thought it made you jittery,” Polly said.

“I want to try again.”

They headed toward the door. “You good, Jade?” Bex asked.

“I’m fine, thanks.” She smooched a kiss at Bex. Bex caught it and pressed it to her lips, then blew one back with a wink.

The others left the room, and Jade settled back on the couch. She watched for a few minutes as Lyra tuned her guitar and got ready for her session.

Her attention shifted as a light flashed on the dashboard in front of the producer. Jade knew from prior experience that meant someone pushed the button outside the studio door requesting admittance. Since Lyra wasn’t recording yet, the producer pressed the button to open the door.

She expected the girls back so when the soundproof door opened and Ryker’s head popped in, a combination of excitement and relief flooded her veins. He was home!

Ryker’s eyes quickly found her across the room.

“Ninja warrior? Seriously, babe?” he asked with a smile.

Jade grinned. “That’s what I said.”

He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.

“I’m a SEAL, not a ninja. SEALs are better — no contest.”

Jade laughed and said, “Hmmm. I don’t know. If you’re not a ninja, then I’ve never been with a ninja. Maybe they’ve got the best skills.”

Ryker smirked. “I guarantee you, they don’t. I’ve got the only skills you’ll need — ever again.”

He strode confidently forward and pulled Jade to her feet. He tunneled a hand through her hair and pulled with enough pressure to tilt her head backward, which exposed her throat. He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss against her pulse point. He kissed and nipped up her neck until he reached her earlobe, which he sucked between his lips with a tug.

Jade’s breath quickened and an unexpected whimper escaped her. She arched her body toward his. She completely forgot where they were and the conversation they’d been having. He’d been away for far too long.

He pressed one more tender kiss to her throat then broke away and let go of her hair.

“I missed you,” he said.

“I missed you, too,” she said, breathlessly.

He smirked again. “Say SEALs do it best.”

“SEALs do it best.” She ran her hands up his chest, and her eyes met his. “Hell, I’ll say whatever you want me to say as long as you take me somewhere private right now.”
