His eyebrow quirked and a mischievous look crossed his face. “Anything?”

“Mmmhmm.”

He grinned and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. His blue eyes gazed intently into hers, so intense her heart actually fluttered in her chest. His hand cupped her cheek, and he traced his thumb along her lips.

“Then say you’ll marry me.”

Her breath hitched. “What?”

“Say you’ll marry me.”

He removed his hand from her face and pulled a traditional black box out of his pocket.

Jade’s eyes widened when he opened the box and revealed a stunning blue sapphire ring. Diamond accents surrounded the large sapphire, and the ring shined like it was brand new. It had a timeless style, and Jade could tell it was made with love. Was that his Grammy’s treasured ring? No, it couldn’t be...that ring was gone. Right?

He took the ring between his fingers and removed it from the box. He snapped the box shut and shoved it back into his pocket.

“Is this what I think it is?” she asked.

He nodded. “This is my Grammy’s ring. She gave it to me as a blessing for the love of my life and our family. She would have adored you, Jade.”

He dropped to one knee and held the ring up. His eyes met hers. “I’d planned to do this differently, but when I saw you again, I couldn’t wait. I love you, sweetness. I want forever with you, and I want to start right now. What do you say? Will you marry me?”

Her heart melted and tears filled her eyes. This man before her knelt to no one, yet he was on his knee for her. She didn’t think she could ever love anyone more. She tried to blink back the tears.

“Yes, I will absolutely marry you. No takesies backsies.”

Ryker jumped to his feet, pulled her into his arms, and crushed his mouth to hers.

“Definitely no takesies backsies,” he murmured against her lips. “And sealed with a kiss. That means it’s forever.”

When he finally broke the kiss, he slid the ring onto her finger. A perfect fit.

Jade smiled, tilted her head up, and spoke to the sky, “Thanks for your support, Grammy. I promise I’ll take care of both your treasures.”

She looked back to Ryker, who had an appreciative smile on his lips. She smoothed her newly-adorned hand across his chest. She rested her palm and the sparkling sapphire over his heart and felt its steady thump against her palm.

“I love you, Jade,” he said. He covered her hand with his.

“I love you, Ry.”

He smirked. “I think I’m supposed to take you somewhere private now, aren’t I?”

“Aye aye, captain. That was part of the deal.”

“I’d better get to it then.”

Ryker threaded his fingers through hers and they turned to leave only to see Lyra standing by the now-open recording room door, wiping tears from her eyes and grinning.

“That was beautiful! I’m so happy for you two!” She clapped her hands excitedly. “Any more ideas on what date you prefer yet?”

Jade said, “I’m not sure. It really doesn’t matter to me. Plus, Ryker still has to get divorced first. I don’t know how long that takes, so we have to wait on that, anyway.”

Ryker said, “We can get married anytime, sweetness. Right now if you want. “

Jade turned to look at him. “What do you mean? I thought you still had to find Lila and go to court.”

“It’s all done. I tracked Lila down and she signed the papers. I filed everything and called in a few favors to speed up the process. I’m officially divorced as of yesterday.”
